Another positive side note. Great to see the buzz in the pubs around town on Sundays and into the night we've had home matches. Div 1 has been great for the businesses in town in a trying time for those businesses.

Congrats to manager Davy Burke and his backroom team and all the players in staying in Division 1. Great achievement and the value of it won't be seen until next winter when we see the fixtures for 2024. Certainly exceeded my expectations as I thought we would struggle big time but we stayed up comfortably. Fair enough the cards fell our way early doors but to beat 3 ulster teams is no mean achievement.

However the real business starts now and good to see some strength in depth in the forward line in particular. 21 scores yesterday was good and it was noticeable that the scoring rate across all divisions increased significantly with the warmwr dryer weather.

I still think we will struggle in midfield and the full back line as options are not as viable. Keeper situation remains questionable as well and it is an issue for a lot of teams. Lot of goalies changes with the top teams yesterday and Cluxton is now back in the Dublin fold ableit for injury cover it was stated. I would like to have seen Aaron Brady, Colin Walsh and Paul Carey get a start yesterday as it's highly unlikely they are going to feature in the championship now.

The other thing I'd be concerned about is we don't seem to have a plan B. Again Mayo have that option of long high ball into O Shea which they didn't have to show in the league game, Kerry have it in Clifford, Galway have it in Tierney and have used it to good effect v Armagh and Kerry in recent weeks. I'd like to see Ciaran Lennon on edge of square at some stages in a match as he can win his own ball and offers something different to the rest of the forwards. He has done well at his defensive duties at wing forward for the league

All.that been said Ross are in a great position for next two weeks where Mayo v Galway have to face each other so injuries etc become an issue while Ross are prepping for one game only.

Anyone name their team for Sunday 9th taking acvount injuries.

My starting team would be and taking into account the front 6 normally has one or two defensive roles dropping back.

Carroll, Murray, Conor Daly, Eoin McCormack, Niall Daly, Brian Stack, Richard Hughes. Keith Doyle and Enda Smith in midfield. Ciaran Lennon, Ciaran Murtagh, Niall Kilroy (for experience and did well v Monaghan). Ben O Carroll, Diarmuid Murtagh and Daire Cregg if fit.

Roll on Easter Sunday.

I thought Carrolls kick outs were very good yesterday but then again Donegal didn't exactly play at high intensity.

We did try high ball late on against Monaghan, Mayo and Kerry and got nothing from them...nearly did , but maybe need to be more strategic.

I was thinking yesterday when TOR went off injured could C Lennon be utilised at midfield? I'd say young Fallon has a bit to go on the conditioning side.

I'd agree with most of your 15 but if Eddie Nolan was back at full fitness and had a challenge match under his belt I'd be inclined to go with him and keep Enda as a link man in the half forward line.

Carrolls kick outs was fine throughout the league. The issues need fixing is movement before he launches them and winning more of the breaking ball, that will require top level intensity and was none for the opening 15,20 minutes against Mayo,Kerry which allowed them build up a lead. Once we pressed up on both and brought intensity plenty of scores came from it.

Eddie if he's lucky might make the 26 unlikely to be drafted into the starting 15 having not played a competitive game since last year. Tadgh O'Rourke a big loss has been one of our top 5 performers this year and really stood up since becoming vice captain and provided good leadership

The senior players outside the first 15 played the u20s last evening. No sign of Eddie Nolan. Must be considered unavailable at this stage.

You wouldn't have details of the 2 teams involved?
Just curious as the who's outside the 26 and available.
I couldn't see Eddie being played v Mayo unless he's 100% right.
It's a kind of a free hit game so no need to risk anyone too much.

Davy trying to get Donie and the 2 Cians up to speed for Castlebar it seems, seeing as they featured Sunday too.

I'm disappointed Shane Cunnane hasn't been more involved. I thought he would be an option at midfield where we do struggle and we're down Ultan Harney this year and Eddie Nolan has been out as well.

Shane will get his chance over the next couple of years along with Walsh Gavin and few others. I'm a big fan of Shane and think he's a brilliant footballer. Very calm and composed on the ball and can take a score. How accurate is Shane from 45s and long range frees off the ground??

U20 Championship Quarter final against a strong a Sligo side this day week. 6:30pm throw in Hyde Park.

Much like last year we have been hit by injuries coming into a championship knock out tie v Sligo. Darren Gately ruled out with ACL as is Colm Neary with hamstring injury. Caelim Keogh (knee), Shane McGinley (groin), Conor Hand (wrist), Ethan O'Reilly (groin) are all doubtful. All six would be starters if fit and available for selection.

If all out are it is what it and we'll have to deal with it. Hopefully all those that step in can make an impact.

Goalkeeper wise it seems to be a choice between the 2021,2020 minor starters David Farrell (Castlerea) Sean Kelly (Clann na nGael)

Defenders options includes Michael Sugrue (Brigids) Eoin Ward (Fuerty) Daniel Casey (Boyle) Conor Harley (Pearses) Eden Kerins (Boyle) Senan Lambe (Boyle) ,James Brady (Tulsk),David Flanagan (Boyle) Tom Lennon (Clann) Tommy Morris (Aidans)

Midfielders a choice between Oisin Cregg (Boyle) Conor Ryan (Pearses) Darragh O'Beirne (Shannon Gaels) Oisin O'Flaherty (Clann)

Forward options Cian Kelly (Dominics) ,Bobby Nugent (Brigids),Rory Hester (western Gaels),Jack Tumulty (Pearses),Eoin Colleran (Pearses),Shane Walsh (Roscommon Gaels),Declan Kenny (Pearses),Rory Carty (Roscommon Gaels) ,Mark Dowd (Creggs),Rob Heneghan (Glaveys) and Ryan Conlon (Roscommon Gaels) Ryan Dowling (kilbride)

Neary, Hand and O'Reilly are major losses.
Have other Counties the same level of injuries or are we doing something wrong?

Yes, was he ever selected as a sub? Would have been good to see him get some action.

He was selected as a sub in some of last seasons games, but none this year so far not even in the FBD league, but had a good performance against the u20s the other evening so I heard.

Do the likes of Roscommon, Monaghan, Cavan, Offaly have something to learn from Derry? Derry came through a Div 2 league campaign last year, failing to get promoted and were still being talked about as All Ireland dark horses. Although horrible to watch they backed it up somewhat winning Ulster and getting to an AI semi. They have some very good individuals but they seem to be conditioned brilliantly. They probably have an even better chance this year of reaching a final. They have a serious confidence about them for a County who have only won one AI ever. Why can't football mad counties such as Ros, Cavan and Offaly replicate this? All three of us have had great underage teams over the past ten years. Ros have also had cycles of top club teams as well. Population wise, when you consider football is probably restricted to the nationalist population and then allow for the way soccer is top dog in Derry city, their GAA population probably isn't far off ours. I know people might laugh if counties like Ros, Cavan, Offaly or Monaghan came out and said their ambition was to win an AI but if Derry can make that an ambition why can't we? Is it structures that are holding us back? Resources?

Played against Sligo in this year's FBD and was on the bench against Armagh in the league. In the pecking order he seems to be number 27 or 28 and with Tadgh out injured he may make the championship 26.

@MachaireConnacht when Derry are organised and all players are pulling in one direction they are always Div 1 side. Dropping from Div 1 finalist 2014 to playing in Div 4 in 2019 was a result of the opposite. Their best players fully focused on club football and didn't give full commitment to the county team. Gallagher changed the culture players are buying into both now, they have a very strong club championship with twice as many clubs than us and handful that would be All Ireland contenders should they win Ulster, Doing better at underage also with their minors winning All Ireland and that's their U20 team this year who will be among the favourites and a few of those players has already featured for their seniors.

Media has talked them up as possible All Ireland winners this year I'm not so sure about that, Depends how much they learnt from Galway dismantling them in the semi final last year and Div 2 isn't the best place to prepare for the championship one has to go back to Armagh in 2002 since a team won the All Ireland playing in that Division and i have a feeling Tyrone will win Ulster this year which would leave Derry a 3rd seed and probably runners up in their group and could face a championship exit to the likes of Kerry,Dublin in the Quarter finals.

Yes their football is horrible to watch, it would be a sad day for football if other counties adopted their style of play. I have been very impressed with Roscommon this year but they need Enda Smyth on the pitch for the full seventy minutes. Game against Mayo will give a good indication where Roscommon are at.

What do you believe Derry have achieved so far that Roscommon haven't in the recent past? The same Derry with one provincial title this century and promotion to a division Roscommon are already in??

Interesting club championship draw last night, some good matches to look forward too... can anyone explain how the clubs let the divisional thing go through... seems absolutely daft that 2 divisional teams automatically get 2 quarter final spots, leaving only 6 places for our 12 senior teams... devalues the comp imo
