Roscommon had lost their last three league games in 2016 and first championship game lucky to overcome New York. Exit to Clare wasn't much of surprise when it was played 6 days after a heavy Connacht final defeat. This year is different than other years with the new format so for me plenty to read out of it. Mayo with Buckley, Rochford on board are fit, strong and well conditioned for the season ahead and for whoever topples them in the upcoming championship have to first match them them in strength, fitness and conditioning. Kerry and Dublin may reach that level come championship time can Roscommon? Gaa_lover (USA) - Posts: 3492 - 03/03/2023 21:17:58 2461689 Link 0 |
Best of luck to the team tomorrow. I'd be happy with a draw as well. Hopefully an improved perfromance from last week. A lot of pundits reckon the two teams will be experimental with team selection so as not to give too much away for the championship game. In Roscommon's case at least, I don't think we should be shadow boxing too much, it would be good to secure safety with two games left. It'll be interesting to see what the actual team sheet is. With 6 young lads coming through we'll hardly have that level of conditioning all round. But first tomorrow's game..... We'll need a massive effort to get anything from this as Mayo are fairly flying at the moment while we looked flat v Monaghan. As far as I know; Wednesday 5th April Ros v Sligo in the Hyde Wednesday 12th April Ros/Sligo v Mayo (semi final) Wednesday 19th April Winners v Galway/Leitrim. (Connacht final) Very little between Roscommon/Galway/Laoise/Cork in under 20 matches. I think Galway progress to meet Dublin in that competition. letsgetgoing (Roscommon) - Posts: 633 - 04/03/2023 19:31:53 2461820 Link 0 |
I don't know why I put myself through the stress of these games. Today is nothing short of diabolical. That goal to give away was just criminal. Looking at it you'd nearly believe we want to be beaten ComainRos (Roscommon) - Posts: 131 - 05/03/2023 15:58:33 2461968 Link 0 |
Deserved win for Mayo but a madcap of a match that we could easily have won with the last kick of the game. The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 3910 - 05/03/2023 16:56:45 2462008 Link 0 |
1-3 gifted to them today but let's be honest they probably should have scored a couple of goals on the break. Some of our lads running around in the first half like they had weights tied to there legs. Couple of players need couple of weeks on the bench. Ben O'Carroll tried all day but you can't win anything starting like that. Anyone that was happy today with that performance needs their heads checked

Thought we were very poor for 50 mins today and mayo were the better team. Our forwards were poor and can't understand the change of goalkeeper. Primrose_and_blue (Roscommon) - Posts: 68 - 05/03/2023 17:32:48 2462025 Link 0 |
Roscommon were poor today and the final score line flatters us. Mayo a lot the better team. The players coming through from the U20 team of two years ago aren't good enough yet. Keith Doyle is out of it and while Ben O'Carroll tried all day, he needs time to mature. Lavin's distribution was poor. Was Conor Carroll injured. We are likely to need something from the Donegal game to stay up. It's hard to have much optimism about Easter Sunday in Castlebar after today. endgame (Roscommon) - Posts: 2300 - 05/03/2023 17:47:00 2462032 Link 0 |

No. Mayo took the foot off the gas. Unfortunately the reality is that Mayo could have won that game by 10 points. Anybody taking any positives out of that game for Roscommon is fooling themselves. We're miles off the pace. We might just stay up in the League but I fear a bad Easter Sunday in Castlebar and a short Roscommon Summer.

Couldn't agree more. Worst display from us in a long time. It was like men against boys at times. We continued to carry the ball into the tackle which is bread and butter for Mayo. They turned us over at their ease. Some of our passing was Junior B stuff. Real lack of intensity today I felt. How we got within 2 points of Mayo I'll never know. I'm genuinely hoping that the team were not fully going at it because if thats where we're at going flat out then it's very worrying. Please God we've done enough to stay up but Kerry and Donegal will be chomping at the bit to pick up points from us.

Don't agree that Mayo took the foot off the gas. They were full of running, fit and well conditioned throughout. Reality is Mayo could have lost with the last kick of the game. Roscommon not starting the engine until the 20th minute and giving away such a poor goal 2nd half proved very costly. No short summers all teams go into the group stages with 3 guaranteed games with perhaps just 1 team close to Mayos level in that group. As for Easter Sunday how much Roscommon has learnt from that defeat should be telling, more will have been learnt by Davy Burke today and last week against Monaghan about this Roscommon team than the opening three wins. It's not and from watching it live we gifted Mayo at least 1-3 (probably more once i watch the game back) 2nd half especially we were very much competitive throughout that half and it was encouraging to see us not drop the heads when we conceded a truly awful goal. Another good 2nd half display as was the case against Galway,Armagh and Tyrone plus a big impact off the bench not sure why similar didn't happen against Monaghan last week and our poor sluggish 1st half performances will have to be addressed before the championship next month. Very tight Division we still remain 2nd for now but only 2 points off 7th. Hard to see us get anything in Tralee and that could leave the Donegal in the Hyde a must not lose to avoid relegation. Before a ball was kicked the Donegal game was likely to be a relegation playoff. As for today a sharp lesson and demo of where we need to be at. We're miles off Mayo in S&C, speed of moving ball forward, speed of thought etc. Still the scoreboard looked respectable at the end and didn't mirror the difference between the teams. Probably some shadow boxing today too? Less said about Ref the better. Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 1960 - 05/03/2023 20:26:44 2462107 Link 0 |
