i see henry shefflin has named his championship squad 2022 championship..
i wonder will pj do the same thing after the league final.?

i also heard today pj saying that mcgrath.,tomo and ,macloughlin all are u-20 this year.
if they play one min of senior championship they cant play u-20!!
does that mean these 3 players will be ruled out until the u-20 championship is over?
if so these 3 players wont be available for the mayo game and possibly beyond that depending
on how the u-20's go!!
if so who will take there place on the galway 26?

Great for the galway lads to sample the atmosphere of a big final in croke park
Hopefully they can round up some fans for the big day as Mayo and Rosommon fans will be there in droves.

I suspect Galway will go out flat out to win. Many members of the panel have nothing to show for in the Galway Jersey. A division 2 title is nothing to sniff at and ignore.

It will save the management for another year me thinks as our chances against mayo are very slim. They are operating on a different level.

Replying To smallfrank:  "Am I missing something here, why is everyone going on about all the games weeks in a row and even McStay said Galway mightn't go for it as they will have to focus on the Mayo game as it's so soon after. The Mayo game is 3 weeks after the league final. We should be picking our strongest team and going flat out to win it."
The day we start paying any attention to Kevin McStay is the day we call it all off.

Hard to agree with with any of your points:

Team selected will go all out but I doubt anyone will be risked if only a slight doubt.

If we flop in the Championship there is no way a D2 title saves anyone.

I think we have a decent chance against Mayo and wouldn't be one bit surprised to beat them. I think we need our spine firing i.e. Kelly, Daly, Walsh and Comer. In the second half of last years CF we only had 1 of those and it showed (obviously Shane stayed on but...).

We will find it hard to win without being at full strength with comer shane convoy starting.

It will be interesting to see if mayo play a full strength team and go for the title.

Interesting times ahead. Gaillimh abu!

Definitely a good experience for the younger lads. Some of the more senior players have already won a Division 2 title in Croker and played a Division 1 final there the year after. A good number of the panel have also won an U20 title, won multiple club All-Irelands and played a few minor finals there. So the majority have have played big finals there already.
Our lads have actually won more finals in Croke Park than than the Mayo or Roscommon teams put together, interestingly.

Statistically yes, but over the last 20 years its been pretty bleak , but hopefully this is the start of Connacht domination at HQ.

Very embarrassing post. Talk about clutching at straws or, attempting to clutch.

Stating facts is embarrassing? Tell me what part of my post is incorrect.
We've been woefully short of challenging for a senior All-Ireland for a long time. Everybody knows that.
A lot of our panel have played big games at Croke Park is my point. Many of them bigger than a Division 2 league final. Sunday isn't an occasion which should overawe any of them.

On the contrary BLT its a very informative post in the present age of stats being king!

Statistically over the past 20 years Galway players have won plenty titles in Croke Park. More than any other Connacht county.
Senior intercounty championship has indeed been very bleak though. This has been because we haven't been anywhere near good enough. Not because our players hadn't experience of playing in Croker.

The U-20's are out against Mayo in just over a week I think so I guess we'll have to see if they play in that game. And whether Galway win or lose it.

If we win a div 2 title and put in a great performance against mayo and lose mgmt will stay. If mayo trounce us management should and hopefully will be shown the door. He got a div 1 team when he took over a div 2 title shouldn't save him

I happen to think we have a good chance against Mayo and so far so good this year. Big gap between div 1 and 2 but the lads can only play what's in front of them

Yes I agree but if they play anything like what they did in the first half last Sunday allowing Roscommon players the freedom of the park they will be in for a hammering. Hopefully they will have learned a lot from it i.e. to tighten up a lot at the back, mark their men and be more efficient in the forwards to take their scores.

We have definitely closed the gap so a trouncing from mayo is not going to happen, but a win is going to be a huge ask of Galway. Not beyond us on a good day.

Huge ask ?
Galway will never have a better opportunity given Mayo's 2 best forwards are long-term injuries, and a host of other players most notably Diarmuid O Connor are struggling with fitness issues to.
Take Ryan O D out of the game, scores are hard to come by for Mayo..

Paul Kelly, Matthew Tierney is probably the only 2020 U20s that will start on Sunday. Corofin recent AI winners just Silke, Molloy the likely starters?
