I don't think there would have been enough light for penalties. There is enough sand based pitches anyway in the county to use this time of year. Milltown is surely an option now with the new lights or a small stand in Lough George for these kind of games.

How many at game last night could milltown deal with parking etc. Nights are getting longer but have we any chance of home advantage in two weeks time 18.30 is a bit early on a weekday. jm25 (Galway) - Posts: 1311 - 05/04/2023 14:44:21 2469076 Link 2 |
O Conghaile is a huge liss and our chances of landing some siverware has greatly reduced. The remaning forwards are not in the same bracket as the spiddal lad. padthepostman (Galway) - Posts: 150 - 05/04/2023 14:52:34 2469079 Link 1 |
The only pitch that could have hosted it successfully was Duggan Park, Ballinasloe. But it does highlight that Tuam needs to be finished with the upgraded stand and flood lights and giving Galway the option of playing league games there on a Saturday night next year.

There's a few of last years team underage, of the top of my head, McGlinchey, Coen, Cox, Gill.

Fairly surprising that for a big football county. I have it at 19/30 of the remaining counties have made an Ireland Semi Final since that. drumalee11 (USA) - Posts: 332 - 05/04/2023 17:16:28 2469127 Link 1 |
Spiddal for the drop this year so, conghaile out, farthing at rugby the lee's gone down under with L Kelly so they'll really struggle. A pity to loose a talent like farthing to the foreign sport. Wish conghaile a speedy recovery Sportsfanatic90 (Westmeath) - Posts: 226 - 05/04/2023 19:30:52 2469149 Link 1 |
can someone answer? Where is semi final played if Roscommon win? Where is semi final if Mayo win? cavan.galway (Galway) - Posts: 212 - 06/04/2023 08:50:19 2469184 Link 1 |
The Hyde if it is Roscommon, we beat them in Pearse Stadium last year and Pearse Stadium if it is Mayo, we them in McHale park last year.

Which would be better from a Galway perspective, Mayo in Salthill or The Ross in The Hyde?? giveitlong (Galway) - Posts: 1258 - 06/04/2023 16:25:46 2469312 Link 1 |
Interesting to see Johnny Glynn, Adrian varley & Eoghan kerins lining out for New York this weekend. They will give Leitrim a good game allstars23 (Galway) - Posts: 48 - 07/04/2023 12:08:00 2469376 Link 1 |
Farthing really gone to rugby? Need to get him back if at all possible. Looked a real prospect last year.

Think he's in the Connacht academy. Given his size I'd be surprised if he made it in pro rugby. Not impossible but will be very difficult. I guess he'd be a similar size to Caolin Blade and he's done well for himself but there are not many that small at the top level.

I thought the O'Laoi brothers were going to be back for championship.

Tbh, I'd prefer to get Mayo in Salthill. We've learned so much about them from league final, and imo showed far too much respect in first half. Need to get matchups correct, on defenders Coyne and Callinan - good defenders, but on the leightweight side. Ludicrous if O'Shea beats us on his own again... Get the goalkeeper sorted or the epitaph will read "Regret I didn't change the keeper." Really (Galway) - Posts: 622 - 07/04/2023 17:10:39 2469454 Link 1 |
They are all badly missed for their counties here!

Beat us on his own? I must have been watching a different league final. He got a bit of possession inside, got bottled up and won a few frees, one in particular which was very soft. He got turned over on another occasion, and also didn't track Sean Kelly when he got forward for a score. If we hadn't been so wasteful at the other end, there would be little talk of how he played. It's definitely his best position and he's a hard man to dispossess due to his size, but a lot of what he did last Sunday was standard enough. It's almost as if the bar was set so low from his previous performances in Croker, that anything positive generates extra coverage. Imo, S.Kelly at full back is costing us in big games. Getting forward is fine, but his primary role should be negating the threat in front of goal, including high ball into the area. Got caught out v Kerry last year v Clifford - repeating the same mistake again this year... So, who would be best equipped for the role? One thing is for sure, unless we try other player/s in the position we will not know. I felt Eoghan Kelly might be better equipped.. The versatile Johnny Heaney might also be worth trying. I don't think Mulkerrin will be the long-term solution - as he lacked pace. I rem. u-20 game v Dublin, when young Archer creamed him.. also, forgettable outings v Kerry.. Unfortunately, IC level exposes and magnifies marginal weaknesses.. Really (Galway) - Posts: 622 - 08/04/2023 16:54:13 2469578 Link 2 |
