Replying To Mayonman:  "The Kelly's should be cloned!"
When I saw Eoghan Kelly play for Moycullen in the 2020 Galway Club Final in Pearse Stadium I thought he was a tremendous footballer and well capable of performing for Galway at county level. As far as I can remember - and unbelievable as it may seem - he was only brought on as a substitute that day but was in my opinion very impressive and on the ball a lot after he came on. It was only afterwards I found out he is a brother to Sean and Paul. As a Mountbellew-Moylough supporter he inflicted a lot of damage in us that day, as did Eoin Gallagher and Dessie.

Gallagher has been very decent in the two games he has played for Galway so far. Dessie has been very poor though.

As a M-M supporter... any idea if Eoin Finnerty is injured? Or has just failed to make the squad so far. I would have thought if not injured he would have seen game time in the FBD.

Replying To Mayonman:  "The game on Saturday is on the BBC Sport NI Website (and i presume the BBC Sport App. Did anyone watch the Derry/Down game last week on the same service and do you know if there is any geography restrictions on broadcast or is it straight forward to stream?"
Game is on the BBC player which cannot be streamed in the Republic of Ireland.

Good news is game seems to be available on GAAGO for €5.

Is Tom Flynn completely gone off the panel? He would be a very good option. Brannigan seems.to be phased out too or is he injured?

Neither is on the panel. There was a post (I think) a number of pages back that took the squad from the Mayo FBD game and listed all of the other players that weren't involved that day that are on the 39 man squad.

He hasn't really done much since 2018. Has been knocking around Galway senior panels for over 10years. Playing Junior club football.

Do you really think he would be a very good option ?

Well considering the number of midfield options that are actually in the squad - yes!!
Paul Conroy, Matthew Tierney, Paul Kelly are the 3 guys that have been playing around that area.
The only other options that I can think of in the squad that have played midfield are Niall Daly (unproven - his only start so far passed him by), James McLoughlin (long term will be our main midfielder no doubt but very young yet) and Matthias Barrett (not up to scratch imo).

As most of us know, Eoin Finnerty has been seriously impressive on the club scene. IMO whenever he's fully fit he has to be given some game time in the league to give him a fair shot at finding a slot in the team/subs. He's got scores in him, if he can take the step up to making space and opportunities at IC level. He deserves the time to prove himself that the likes of Dessie, Tomo and others have been getting. And I'm not complaining about them at all - Tomo may fast become a key man, Dessie is tremendous at club level but still has to prove his worth at this level. Hope he does.

Very sorry to hear Tommy Conroy's injury for NUIG the other night is confirmed as an ACL. He'll be out for quite a while, the poor lad. A new star for Mayo and a very well liked gentleman too - wishing him a speedy recovery. Hope the NUIG lads drive on for him in the Sigerson.

Think Flynn had a good few injuries the last few years but playing Junior Football when you've missed so much county football is far from ideal. He didn't hit the heights he should have done, that goal against Kerry in 2014 showed what he was capable off but how often did we see it?

Midfield is an issue though, can't expect Conroy to play 70 minutes in there and not sure its Tierney & Paul Kellys best position.

Hard slog on two wet heavy pitches within 72 hours, madness & has cost this talented footballer.

Lets hope he gets his chance as he was outstanding for MM in recent times although his performance against Moycullen in the 2020 final was disappointing but he was been man marked by Sean Kelly. Galway need another option in the full forward line, think its too early for Culhane and Conneely was very poor in the FBD games. Finnerty looks like he's been used further out which is where he played last night when he came on for DCU and was excellent. Whether he's atheltic enough to play in the half forward line I'd have my doubts.

I think he would be a very good option if he is fully fit and still has his pace as he has proven himself at this level. He had really developed under Kevin Walsh and was playing very well up to 2019(all star nominee in 2018). Some very good games against Mayo in particular. Even in 2020 he was named by Joyce to start v Mayo but was injured so didn't line out. I think the future is definitely Paul Kelly, Tierney, McLaughlin etc but sometimes it's no harm to have an experienced guy as an option when the game is going against you. Last year against Mayo we were crying out for some extra help when the game was going against us for example. I do agree with you that the further time moves out from his last involvement at senior then the less likely it is for him and that's why I was wondering was he in this year.
Best of luck to him if he is not, he has had a very good career and served Galway well

I think Matthias Barrett might be back on the panel. He was sitting with all the injured Galway players at the Meath game anyway. Not sure if he was just over for a chat but looked like he was back on the panel.

Ya they seriously need to revisit the fixture calendar set up to prevent this happening. Madness across all counties. Could sigerson be played in November/December taking advantage of the likes of the Dome? I know it would clash with club but the intensity of a club game via a county game against the likes of Donegal is totally different. Also numerically only certain clubs will still be left playing in November/December whilst all counties will be playing at this time of year

There is no way 2 games in 48 hours caused the cruciate injury. If it was a hamstring, calf or quad id say yes then there is a chance.

But a cruciate... No way !

A lad in his early 20s playing games within 48 hours has been happening for decades with the sigerson/intercounty split. The outrage is pure nonsense. If he hadn't been playing a game with UCG, he would have been training instead !

You are right, it looks like it was a result of a heavy tackle that he should have gotten a free in for. Ref was pretty brutal Tuesday night, but I guess Sigerson he let the lads sledge each other only a couple of cards to be seen.

Wet but they wouldn't be heavy pitches. Sligo got a new pitch recently.

The amount of training players are put through over these winter months needs to be looked at. Both Mayo and Galway have been preparing for this year since early November, strength and conditioning coaches pushing players harder than ever. The amount of twisting and turning in each session puts huge pressure on the cruciate.
