Replying To Lockerroomboy:  "Few lads got carried away when we beat laois, very poor last night, 3 forwards not near good enough for inter county same can be said about defense, missed a 2 easy frees on the right, no left foot free taker,"
There was 10 changes last night so as you rightly said we shouldn't get carried away by beating Laois we also shouldn't be to worried about losing last night.

Replying To beano:  "I was looking at our league schedule (planning my own itinerary to attend some games), and I am optimistic that promotion is an attainable goal. But it's imperative we start off with a win at home vs Sligo, because an away trip to Cavan the following week looks to be the toughest away assignment.

Of the three remaining road games, we should beat London quite comfortably (if we don't, we have no business even thinking about promotion), while Andy Moran is an unknown quantity so far in Leitrim and we should be aspiring for a statement victory. Everything could hinge on our final game away to Carlow, and it could be tasty. Taking on Tipp at home is more favourable than travelling there and they have gone a bit stale since their 2020 highs, and we have a chance of exacting revenge on Waterford in round five.

I would expect us to win all our home games, including taking the scalp of Tipp, and beat London and Leitrim away. That would put us on the cusp of promotion, and two crucial weeks I see are round 5 when Cavan host Tipp on the same day we host Waterford, and ourselves travelling to Carlow when Tipp and Cavan close with home games against London and Waterford respectively. Hopefully some of the stronger teams take enough points off each other to make that Carlow game elementary."
While promotion is attainable it will be a tough ask, this is our 6th year out of 7 in Div 4 so we're established at that level and its certainly not an easy division to get out of, Tipp will be weakened by Quinlivian taking the year out, I don't think we're in a position to take any game for granted including the game away to London.

All the teams are using the games to get to lads onto the pitch and see what they an do. I wouldn't be worried about the loss unless we lost by 15 points as that would perhaps point to weak panel. Anyway we will let Laois worry about their panel. It would be good to get to the Semis as its an extra game against another team that will be playing above us in the league. If we were not playing these games we would have to play challenge games and these are way better than challenge games.

Replying To wexico15:  "Thanks, Laois beating Meath after been so poor against us shows how all these results can be taken with a pinch of salt, all about been ready for Sligo on Jan 30th."
All the teams will be doing fairly heavy fitness training at this time of year too which will affect energy levels at matchtime. Its defo all about building to the Sligo game.

I love your optimism Beano! Promotion is certainly attainable but its far from a given that we will beat Tipp at home. Likewise Leitrim and Carlow away could turn out to be very tough games it's hard to know what either will look like by the time we have to play them. Cavan away would be a great win altogether if we can manage it. Generally in the League playing home is a big advantage and we have drawn the short straw only having 3 home games.

I think we have every chance against Meath in this competition- alot will depend on who is playing on the day for both teams. And as you say an extra game against a better team who are also aiming to get their team selection sorted out before the League kicks off would have to be good for our panel.

Best of luck to Brian Malone on his intercounty retirement, the phrase 'he owes the jersey nothing' is overused but certainly appropriate for him, a real warrior.

Absolutely. I had a feeling after getting to Croke Park with his club that he would call it a day, but what a servant he was.

9 New Ross District players in the 27 for the Meath game. Hope the lads can get a win and get another competitive game in before the League starts.

Great player and fair play to him for giving the county team so many years.

Yeah I was thinking the same. The half-back line named in particular is our strongest possible combo and looks excellent on paper.
