Why Mayo Cant Win An All-Ireland ?, is a provocative thread & title, why not ask for example, why can't Kildare, Monaghan, Cavan, Laois, Roscommon, etc, etc, etc, reach an all Ireland final at least once every 10 years let alone win one, or why can't Fermanagh or Wicklow win at least one provincial senior title, just one, or why can't Carlow get out of div.4, why can't Kilkenny field a Senior football team at least for the National football league, why can't Westmeath stake a claim on being the second best team in Leinster and then challenge the best for a Leinster title every year (ish)?

Why is it that div.4 counties and indeed more often than not div.3 counties can say before a ball is kicked that televised games will not be applicable to them,?

Why is it that Mayo have to carry the can for all other counties to learn from. Why is it that Mayo as a county breed lads to become household names for some of us to ridicule and criticize as if they are professional footballers, with no families and are stand alone creatures on mega, mega, salaries.

Why can't Leitrim win a Connaught senior football title every 2nd or 3rd year and then go on and contest an All Ireland Senior Football Title.?

Why not,?
all of this would take some pressure off Mayo.
Why do I even bother with all this ***p.??"
Because every sport on earth has its perpetual also rans, and its basic human nature that if you're not as good as your competitors you won't get the same level of attention from fans or the media, but I doubt there is a team, or individual, anywhere in world sport with a record of getting to so many finals without winning one.
It's be far sillier if people didn't talk about it really."
I honestly don't get it. I can see where it would be referenced that a team lost a significant number of finals but this is more than that. We have everyone and their mother experts at analyzing the reason including suggesting mental weakness. Did the Mayo teams decide we are going to go up there to Croke Park and lose all these finals ? Guess what they were not good enough. If they win the next 6 in a row it will because they are good enough. Then the analysts will be off on another track.

Hard to disagree with that. Unfortunately we (Mayo people) just have to take it on the chin (the abuse, mocking, bottlers, ridicule etc). Until we win the All Ireland this is what we are known as.

That said we have had some ride over the last 10 years…London, New York, Croke Park a second home. I travelled home with good friends last Saturday very downhearted and annoyed (still am) but look as my friend said "at least we are in it together" (few beers on board) but it's true. Family and friends come first and are much more important.

Being in a final means fans can savour the build up. The search for tickets the non stop chat about the game ahead. The excitement of traveling to the match with colours flying everywhere. The butterflies of the morning of the match the grub the pints and then the total heaven of watching your team run onto the hallowed sod. Then the parade with the heart pounding like crazy. Those are the magic feelings that one can never get if their team does nt make a final so be grateful and so grateful that Mayo have got to experience those great moments so many times.

I'm not trying to knock them believe it or not, in fact I find some of the mockery and triumphalism from my fellow galway men a tad tragic, shows how crap we are that we need to get our kicks out of mayo losing.
Obviously there's no curse, but Mayo absolutely had the personnel to win several of those finals.

I find it hard to read from where the new post starts here with all the quoting, and speaking of quoting has anyone seen African Gail since the All Ireland? suppose he/she/it is busy posting under all their other aliases,
It was busy telling us how Ulster teams would win nothing outside of Ulster, gone very quite now I see.
Just watching the match again here on a wet evening one week later, the anti Ulster/Tyrone bias in the RTE commentary is shocking though not surprising, Ger Canning nearly broke down in tears when Mayo miss the penalty, that was a square ball anyway and there was also a push on the back of the Tyrone man, was a free out for that too.
You want to know why Mayo haven't got over the line in recent times? watch the first 30 secs of the second half.

Family and friends come first and are much more important."]That said we have had some ride over the last 10 years…London, New York, Croke Park a second home. Post-match comfort zone, there lies part of your problem.
Discussion closed."]So fans discussing and drinking after a game and trying to look on the bright side is the reason we lose finals? Right thanks. An expert in Carlow who know's so much about football."]To be fair I can never understand how people think that a person's geographical location/county have a bearing on whether than can or cannot be an expert on football or Hurling. I've listened to that ignorant attitude all my life. Its very small minded."]While i agree with you about not being allowed to be an expert just because you're from a weaker county, but what gives someone from carlow the right to tell mayo where their problems lie..why can't carlow win the all ireland? How do people want Mayo fans to react( it makes zero difference to them winning an all ireland).. would be some dark county if they went on as some of you expect them to after a loss, life goes on!"]The thread is about why Mayo can't win an All Ireland, that's why people from Carlow or anywhere else are entitled to their opinion.

The ulster coverage on the BBC is anti southern, clears day they've want the gallant ulster men to beat those damn southerners, I assume that bothers you too?

I honestly don't get it. I can see where it would be referenced that a team lost a significant number of finals but this is more than that. We have everyone and their mother experts at analyzing the reason including suggesting mental weakness. Did the Mayo teams decide we are going to go up there to Croke Park and lose all these finals ? Guess what they were not good enough. If they win the next 6 in a row it will because they are good enough. Then the analysts will be off on another track."]Mayo were good enough to win the'96,'13,'16,'17,' 21 finals and while perhaps not good enough to win them, woefully underperformed in the '97,'04,'06 finals.
I'm not trying to knock them believe it or not, in fact I find some of the mockery and triumphalism from my fellow galway men a tad tragic, shows how crap we are that we need to get our kicks out of mayo losing.
Obviously there's no curse, but Mayo absolutely had the personnel to win several of those finals."]No they absolutely did not. If they did they would have won. Just like us. If you keep telling yourself you should have won only for this that and the other thing, like missed scores and players not performing then you are in denial and just hindering yourself. Thankfully we have stopped that both our players, managers and supporters. We epitomized that attitude for way too long. Now we accept we have to be better than all the teams and Limerick are just one of them. If we are we will and if not not will have to take it on the chin but the blame game won't do us one bit of good."]Of course they had the personnel to win those games I mentioned, are you honestly saying, to take one example, that that Mayo team last Saturday was incapable of beating that Tyrone team? They were well capable of beating them, they just played badly on the biggest day.
By your logic the Dublin team of 2016 weren't good enough to beat Mayo in that years final, having failed to beat them the first day , only they were good enough, they did beat them 13 days later.

It's amazing all the expert opinions on all matters of Gaelic football that emanate from Galway, after Mayo losing another AIF. It's the same ould dross tossed out year after year by the Galway crowd. It might have been somewhat understandable in the 1960's when Galway was a footballing powerhouse. Two AIs in the last 55 years tells us clearly that that once powerhouse has clearly fallen to the ashes. It can be hard to listen to Mayo fans too, all the oollagooning and 'but only for's', but give me listening to them, or even to a sheep farting on the Hills of Connemara, than having to suffer the pain of Galway thinking that it's a strong footballing county. A ball hasn't been kicked in anger in that place in the past 20 years. Nobody should be surprised that Mayo managed them very handily again this year, and that's with only playing half a game of football.

Didnt find that at all. Thought their Football coverage was better than RTEs tbh like many other posters from counties all over the 26 counties from Kerry to Dublin to Donegal!
