Why do Leitrim never beat Mayo. Because... they never play them in the All Ireland Final.! endgame (Roscommon) - Posts: 2377 - 28/09/2021 18:39:21 2383420 Link 1 |
But they do anyway- did they not beat them back in the nineties?

My post was in jest which is allowed. Leitrim did beat Mayo in the 1994 Connacht Final but the gulf between them when they met in this year's championship was huge. I would seriously question if 1994 will ever happen again.

Hard to disagree with that. Unfortunately we (Mayo people) just have to take it on the chin (the abuse, mocking, bottlers, ridicule etc). Until we win the All Ireland this is what we are known as. That said we have had some ride over the last 10 years…London, New York, Croke Park a second home. I travelled home with good friends last Saturday very downhearted and annoyed (still am) but look as my friend said "at least we are in it together" (few beers on board) but it's true. Family and friends come first and are much more important."]That said we have had some ride over the last 10 years…London, New York, Croke Park a second home. So, Why can't Mayo win an All - Ireland, the answer is relatively simple. Connaught final. - - Mayo played div.4 football throughout the first half, played div. 1 football plus tenacity with cohesive team work throughout the second half, victory over Galway didn't happen, it was caused. All Ireland semi-final. - - Mayo played div. 4 football again, throughout the first half and went in a few points down at half time, found their game plan and put it to good use played div. 1 football plus tenacity with cohesive team work throughout the second half enough to draw the match and bring it to extra time, extra time meant it was in fact another (different) game against the Dub's, to their eternal credit Mayo had the physical and mental strength to take the game from Dublin, and they did. All Ireland final. - - Mayo was not as cohesive as they were against Dublin, played a mix of div.1 / 2 / 3 and 4 football along with that tenacity was missing therefore no sucker punch, indecisive, no game plan. I can't see Mayo getting to the All-Ireland final next year, looking for the easy way out like the back door system is merely papering over the cracks, the straight knock out separates the men from the boys, like 2020 / 2021, too many changes needed, perhaps even a mini rebuild and that may take a bit of time. Good luck to them, never the less. supersub15 (Carlow) - Posts: 3164 - 30/09/2021 20:33:04 2383863 Link 2 |
The curse can't be blamed anymore, think Mayo missed their chances in the last decade can't see them winning one anytime soon, expect Dublin Tyrone and Kerry to dominate the next decade and more. Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 3175 - 30/09/2021 20:41:01 2383864 Link 0 |
Why can't Galway compete at the high Mayo have been year after year? Mayo against the head have taken down big dogs in practically every c'ship since the early 2000s, have put in barnstormers of performances in big games at the biggest stage on such a consistent level it boggles ones mind, my answer is Mayo are and will be fine Galway4ever (Galway) - Posts: 221 - 01/10/2021 07:17:13 2383892 Link 0 |
Your post is quite correct, name a big football county, chances are mayo have beaten them over the last decade, I think that's why so many people are at odds as to why they can't seem to get over the line.
