Pretty clear and damning reading you cannot argue with that statement almost as hollow as "We all in this together"

In a way, it is a little surprising that the GAA hierarchy were taken aback by adverse reaction to their Sky deal. After all, for twenty years the organization's leadership had repeated time-and-again that it would never do a deal with Sky. These statements were unequivocal and continued right up to the time when the deal was made. Sometimes they were made at the GAA's Annual Congress, like when the then President of the GAA, Jack Boothman, said: 'The GAA can never in conscience decide to sell television rights to any media provider who will not be widely available throughout the country and which will not be national in character. We are not going to sell our people down the river for money.' GAA Presidents from the 1990s up to Christy Cooney (2009-12) repeated this commitment not to sell the exclusive rights to GAA matches to Sky. Courtesy Historyhub. I'd agree and said it before regarding Nicky. However the whole thing is desperate. Ollie canning didn't even know they were retaining the yellow sliothar. The whole lot is a joke and the quality is getting worse instead of better

Sky accepted non exclusive rights to the Republic of Ireland international competitive games

They had no choice. Our competitive games in World Cup and Euros have to be free to air on terrestrial TV - they are one of a number of events that are ring-fenced - Six Nations among the others. Our friendly soccer games and the recent Nations Cup games for example aren't available on RTE. https://www.irishtimes.com/news/government-publishes-list-of-protected-events-1.430156 jimski (Kildare) - Posts: 381 - 04/07/2021 18:35:10 2356127 Link 0 |

Season pass on GAAGO costs €25. For that, you get all National League and Championship games that weren't on TV. Amazing value.

The caption reads, "Sky sports GAA" were left red faced after a graphic during the Galway v Dublin game suggested that two Dublin players involved in a substitution were of English and Belgian nationality. supersub15 (Carlow) - Posts: 3168 - 05/07/2021 10:36:11 2356402 Link 2 |
Yeah, but the quality is atrocious

First of all there is a big difference between an "opinion" and a commitment, a huge difference. In any case the point isn't about extra games, nobody questions that. You make a big jump from 1994 to 2021, neither year is relevant but it helps your narrative. If you read the article it's clear that pledges were made by a number of presidents right up until 2012, just two years before the deal was done that exclusive rights to GAA matches would not be sold to Sky. The issue isn't that the rights were sold, the issue is that the GAA hierarchy never kept their word. Your mention of the ban would only be relevant had the GAA president at the time continually pledged not to bring in a ban and then done the exact opposite. Who needs Sky when you can and have a service like GAAGO which is owned jointly by the GAA and RTE ? Why line the likes of Rupert Murdoch's pockets or whoever owns Sky now when you could instead put money back into the GAA and the national broadcaster ? Iptv is the way to go for a product like the GAA, watch what you want, when you want and wherever you want without having to buy a "package" and are possibly tied to a contract.
