Kerry V Dublin

Replying To PK57:  "Fair play to the posters who are so optimistic about a Kerry win, i just don't see it. Dublin haven't lost a championship game in 5 years - which gives an idea of the task facing Kerry. Kerry were poor in the Munster final, could easily have lost to Donegal and were 4 down at HT against Tyrone, perform anyway like on Sunday and they'll be ripped apart. I was in croke park for the semi final and never seen a team turn the screw the way Dublin did at the start of the 2nd half, no team can live with that. Add to that the strength in depth and it's hard to see how Kerry win this. I hope at the very least we get an exciting and competitive final, if not then Dublin will have won an AI without anyone putting it up to them - except for 35 minutes against Mayo.
Dublin by 5"
Cork were right in it with us til the 62 minute , that's the most competitive game we've got this year tbf. Mayo first half were brilliant but injuries and season mileage caught up on them in the end.

This is Kerry they won't lie down and let ya walk all over them no chance.

If the dubs do beat us or give us a hiding then you'll see football die a death, we're supposedly the great white hope for everyone else and if we don't beat them nobody will and football will be well and truely dead and buried.

Honestly though I do think we'll win, it's going to be tough no doubt but I believe we're well up for it.

Dublin by seven.

Kerry's forward line is gold plated but their backs are still quite inexperienced and I feel that Dublin just have too many options there, especially off the bench (as is true of them against anyone else).

Will be interesting to see who wins the midfield battle, Fenton up against Moran is a monster match-up for sure.

So when you twice hammered Mayo and Cork in finals that was all good ? Once Kerry keep on wining and no one else sure who cares that's the way it's suppose to be.

Not the biggest lover of Gaelic Football but really looking forward to this game now. One way or another history will be made and the game itself should be pulsating.

I tell you one thing - when Kerry were beating Dublin 1-24 to 1-7 in 2009 I could never have foreseen the way Dublin took over Gaelic Football this decade. To be talking about 5 in a row and 7 titles out of 10 in the decade, phenomenal.

But there is also the 1982 element in the build up. People thought the 5 in a row would happen in 1982 and in 2010 and now it is the same build up. Should be a cracking afternoon on Sunday no matter what way it goes.

Ya, I'd say you're concerned about the future of football alright and Kerry destroying any hope for it in Munster for decades. Underage sides being badly demoralized and sure that's all grand like. Ah yah,the concern is powerful I'd say.

Is it ok for a Leinster man to support Dublin?!

I'm not anti Kerry and would be happy for them if they won. It's just I feel an affinity for Dublin in that I feel they are very like our hurling team in the 2000s. Everyone wants them to lose and their excellence is being diluted a bit as people just want to moan about them.

I've said it Up The Dubs!!

So the Kingdom's big dilemma is to start Tommy Walsh or not, I know he is a good ball winner but in 2009 he scored some fine points and is very one dimensional now. I would start him and hoof every ball in his direction, nothing to lose.

Doubt very much he starts. In the semi he played more around the half forwards and was winning all sorts of ball in front of his man and laying it off, and he won 3-4 restarts as well. I don't think we'll see them hoofing ball in to him as it's too predictable and easy to shut down. His shooting is terribly erratic, hence the reluctance to play him as an inside forward.

They may bring him in again with 20-25 minutes to go in a similar role to the semi and that is all you could ask of him now. He doesn't have a full game in his legs at this stage.

You're right Moran and Fenton won't match up it'll be Moran and McCarthy or Moran And McCauley it'll be Barry or Spillane on Fenton.

Depressing reading for anyone that worries about the future of the GAA in rural Ireland.

https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/gaelic-games/gaelic-football/rural-decline-has-football-in-south-kerry-on-life-support-1.3996745

But also a wonderful illustration of the richness, strength and endurance of Kerry's GAA tradition - that it can cope with these massive economic and social challenges and still produce generations of great player and great teams.

Please God another great Kerry team arises on Sunday and takes their place within that rich pantheon!

Replying To Jackeen:  "if you look back to the mayo vs Dublin games of recent times it was the real scoring ability of the mayo forwards that enabled them to go to the wire,

It was the exact opposite. It was their ridiculously good backs that made them so formidable. Something Kerry struggle with."
Mayo's middle eight would be more correct.

mayo had weakness at both ends of the pitch have conceded 14 goals in last 7 matches V Dublin. Both Goalkeeper, Full back line and full forward lines have not been good enough

Actually if you read the article is more or less states it has always been this way, even periods with no teams

I think Kerry can do it but they'll need to play a near-perfect game. The biggest thing is cool heads and playing it right when Dublin get on top, because they 100% will have their purple patch and how well you handle that will probably be the winning or losing of the game for Kerry. If you can secure your own kickout, get up the pitch a bit and stem the Dublin tide, you're in with a great chance of winning the match.

But if you lose every kickout in a 10 minute period, good night.

I firmly believe that when Dublins full back line is tested they could be in trouble, I think it also comes down to how ruthless Kerry can be when they are on top.

The Kerry forwards are sheer quality and if they can put an early(ish) goal past Dublin there could be 1 or 2 more to follow.
