Only hernon molloy o laoi o con and faherty didn't get a run, feel time is up for the 2 spiddal men when Walsh and Cooke are ready. Great headaches for a management to have and favourites for the AI"
I forgot about Molloy great player and can score a point

Yes and the scores from the half forward line would have been up yesterday evening.

It was 1-6 btw and the half forward who didn't score was prob MOTM

Ah no I do enjoy Kickitout posts. Can be bit negative at times but knows his football tbf to him.
Galway 1/2 in Boyles to beat Mayo.
Sounds like Shane won't be ready for 2 weeks time, can't see Comer starting. Think it would make it even sweeter if we could land 4 in a row without our two main hitters

This team will start most games and imagine having , Cooke, Comer, Walsh, Daniel Flaherty ,John Daly, Heaney,Sweeney, Hernon,Tomo, O Laoi I and Sam O neill on the bench. Definitely strength in depth"
Against a Rossie team that have not been playing well and just came up from division 2 oh yeah best performance in a long time well done...

Replying To Drax_the_destroyer:  "All two easy for Galway today reminded me of 10 point win against Mayo in the league this spring with the same lack of fizz or any intensity to the game. New rules and still not a good spectacle. Saying all that a solid team performance by Galway from back to front such a well coached team.

The noisy neighbours Mayo up next, they'll throw their usual shapes. Lads on their blog and podcast will suddenly confidence from somewhere but when all is set and done Galway should win 4 connacht titles in a row for the first time since that legendary team in the 60s"
A 10 point win from our B team congrats ..

Have all the cockiness ye want but we won't let any arrogant Galwegions pat our guys on the head after a win this time ( a fluke win that was last year .. )

Ye may be favourites but we won't be a walk over (even if PJ is an extra ref or two again ....on the day )

Matthew Tierney's goal was a pivotal moment that shifted the game's momentum in Galway's favor.
We will need him to have the confidence to take them if we want to win it this year. This goal broke the deadlock and ignited a scoring surge for Galway, this is what we need come summer.

Cein D'Arcy has quickly become one of the most influential players, he was linking midfield and attack seamlessly. His work rate off the ball was exceptional - always available as an outlet, constantly moving to open space, and applying pressure. Seán Kelly is the bedrock. He was everywhere yesterday - covering huge ground from centre-back, breaking lines, dictating tempo, and when Roscommon tried to rally, it was Kelly who steadied the ship.
Paul Conroy showcased his enduring class with his two two-pointers, we will need him to keep going for those two pointers. Two pointers change games.
I can't understand how Finnerty got MOTM. A lot of wides and mistakes.
Finally, nice to see Comer back on the pitch and he got a great reception from the crowd

Mayo will put it up to Galway, no doubt but there's more pressure on McStay than Joyce to win a Connacht title. If he doesn't win it will be Kevin McDon't Stay for him.

Galway's physicality around the middle gives them serious advantage. Conroy, Maher, Darcy, McDaid, Kelly, Mulkerrin all big men, with also the option of Tierney or Comer coming out for kick outs from time to time. The rule changes suit Gleeson also as not able to come up the field, and doesn't have to think too much about the kick outs. Comer and Walsh may be demoted to impact subs for the next 7/8 weeks, due to their constant injuries. That would put some pressure on the six starting forwards to perform.

That's true. Kevin McStay needs to win Connacht title this year to save his job. Given though that Galway have the best panel in the country this year and that there has been no stand out team in the country this current decade does Padraig Joyce need to win an All Ireland title this year to save his job?

D'arcy was unreal the last day.

Tierney looks to have added a small bit of muscle as well, no harm he was very wirey and is tall as well.

Thought it was a misprint but it is correct - Galway 2/9 to win Connacht final with Paddy Power. Roughly same price as we were to beat Roscommon.

Final will be a toss up as usual. We beat Mayo plenty of times when they were operating levels above us. We are definitely well a head of them at the moment however they are still capable of beating us in the final.

Kick out strategy was excellent and well coached. I hope we have a plan B because I presume Mayo will have a plan for what we did against the Rossies.

Our attacking shape was good. Left loads of space inside to break into and worked a lot of simple finishes. Back in 2022 we were kicking wonder points to win games. It was never sustainable.

We need Shane, Damo and Cooke for round robin games. We cannot repeat last years mistakes of playing lads that are not fit.

Tierney is really under rated. Brilliant under high ball and a great mark option and threat for a goal when he drifts inside.

Lastly, I like the FB line. Glynn, Fitz and McGrath are real hardcore defenders first and foremost. Playing attacking corner backs in league was exposed a bit in my opinion and we conceded a good few goals.

He has said publicly if they had won last year's AIF that he would have stepped down. There is only one reason why he stayed for another year imo

I don't think Gleeson should come up to take the 45s either, he has missed a fair few.

Given that Galway have played in two of the last three finals, I would suggest yes, that if Galway don't win AL this year Padraig will call it a day. This is his sixth year in charge. The difference between the two, is that Galway have continuously improved under Joyce, Mayo have gone backwards under McStay.
