Replying To galway19:  "I don't think you will see Michael Daly in a Galway shirt until there is a change of management. Pity because he is a Rolls Royce of a footballer. Sounds like Cooke is not going to be involved and with James McLaughlin and Hernon doubtful as well, the midfield options are a bit low."
What's up with McLaughlin and Hernon?

Just as we're getting a few defenders back this year we seem to be losing options around the middle third of the field.

Both possibly going travelling for a year. Hernon more likely to be gone but McLaughlin also has the AFL trials in the background.

Cian is expected to take an Erasmus from University so may not be able to commit.

They didn't play Daly last year in the dome because of past issues with his knees, I'd leave him at home and same for Mulkerrin given the last couple of years he's had. Salthill v Mayo in a few weeks the real test. They've played a few challenges last few weeks, Friday evening will be the same. Obviously having a look at the No.1 position, I'm hearing lots of guys have been looked at and even a couple of established outfield players. Might we see Galway go down the Rafferty, Morgan, Shane Ryan route and have a club forward in goal(not just Flaherty)

We have a strong squad with lots of depth. There are a couple of positions we are light.

I think the key to the season is tying down a formation and road testing it in the league, tweaking as needed with the aim of being ready for the Connacht final..... all the while avoiding relegation!

Loads of potential combinations but we need to get it settled and a settled style. Last year I felt we reverted too much to slow build up. We need to be able to inject pace into the game and I think when Sean Kelly and Comer were injured we suffered in that regard.

Injury free going into the round robin stages especially our key men.

Cian Darcy another possible midfield option for Galway seniors this year. Doesn't look like Shane Walsh will be taking any extended break this year, has been training and playing challenges with Galway in recent weeks I believe and with a week long training camp coming up Joyce will be looking to hit the ground running for this years league campaign.

Great team for FBD.

Is Trevor training with the panel?

Make or break for Darcy. Hope he hits the ground running.

Ive been saying this for a few years, Paul Conroy was a very capable goalkeeper at underage. You could have one of the best playmakers in the country in the role, also being excellent under the high ball, on the pitch while masking his downsides (getting up and down the pitch at 35).

If done correctly it could be everything Armagh have with Rafferty and better. I don't think we've the risk takers or innovators on the sideline however to actually take that chance

Fully agree with both paragraphs.

The top ten football club managers in Galway in 2023.

1. Kevin Johnson - Corofin - Brought the title back to the parish again, playing good football . Unlucky in the Connacht final as they didn't play to their high standard.

2. Don Connellan - Moycullen - Reached the county final again and did it without the outstanding Seán Kelly. If they had Kelly in the County final who knows?

3. Jarlath Jennings - Milltown- Brought a team with some good young players and some very experience players to the semi final and really did put it up to Corofin with the high ball tactic
.
4. Francis "Bunty" Roache - Monivea Abbey - Won the intermediate championship playing nice open football and with out Cillian Mac Daid - very unlucky not to have won Connacht.

5. Ciaran O Fatharta - Lettermore- Took over as manager mid term after a very poor campaign in their group. He and his management team changed the fortune of the Lettermore squad completely and saved their senior status for 2024.

6. The Killannin under 19 management team, they put together a fine young team and won the county under 19 A Competition. A great achievement for a small club.

7. Gary Delaney - Dunmore Mac Hales - A year at the top table and they held their own in the senior championship.

8. The Menlough management team. Back in the intermediate ranks again after wining the county title in style. Unlucky in Connacht.

9. Val Daly - Mountbellew Moylough - Brought his team to the county semi final again and they are still one of the top dogs in Galway football.

10.Pete Warren - Cortoon Shamrocks - Did well to reach the county intermediate semi final as nobody gave them a chance.

Who agrees and who doesn't? who should not be in that list and who should?

I believe there was a lot of talk about Conroy going back in goal when he got the bad injury. Fair play to the guy he came back from breaking his 2 legs at 29 to play midfield the following years.
The game does seem to have moved on, even from Cluxton. We need to move with the times.
I would predict there will be more points from play scored by keepers this year at inter County than ever before

University of Galway beaten by point tonight. Does anyone know what the structure of the competition is? If UoG lose their game are they out?

I was there. Uni Galway keeper made an awful howler with a couple minutes left to play to gift a goal to Trinity. Dropped a high ball into his own net. Ryan O'Donoghue missed a handy enough free to take it to extra time right after. Pretty sure they are not out as there is usually a losers round.

From a Galway perspective he only came off the subs bench early in the 2nd half but Cillian O'Curraoin kicked 2 fantastic points. And came very close to a third. Just dropped under the crossbar. Definitely looks to have something about him.

McLaughlin was only alright. I thought Trinity actually were on top in midfield for a lot of the game.

No, a loss in the first round still means you are in the competition. How in the name of god they lost to TU Dublin I don't know.

It was the Technological University Dublin (TUD) not Trinity who beat the University of Galway tonight. With 28,000 students from primarily Dublin and the surrounding counties, they will be very competitive in future years. It is the combined old DIT and the former Institutes of Tallagh and Blanchardstown, so they will have a great pick if they get their act together.

On another point the Gaa Beo app is great for keeping up to date with Gaa matches. Gives you the teams, scorers, subs etc. (Including sigerson)
I would highly recommend it for all GAA followers. You might even save a small fortune on buying programmes while getting real time information.

overly negative tactics. Ryan O'Donoghue was the only dangerous forward starting, Cathal Sweeney and Daniel Flaherty were named at 13 and 15.
