Replying To Fox.1n.7he.b0x:  "Listened to D Blake on the maroon and white podcast say that he doesn't think it's a great idea to keep swapping management there management got them to a semi final and they ran them, also he said with regards looking for the new manager he will leave that up to the players surely the club will be the ones to decide this? And players just give them a preference who they would like to have"
I think it's becoming a farce at this stage. I know of one club who established a selection committee and there were 2 players, an ex player and a current players mother on it. I heard a figure recently of €1k per week to run a club senior team between coaches, physio, stats, and "mileage". Then you have the likes of Pat Flanagan, Malachy O'Rourke even the great John O'Mahony showing up here there and everywhere(he was with The Downs in Westmeath before Salthill).
The most successful club managers of the past decade in Galway were Kevin O'brien, Don Connellan and Val Daly.

Seeing as the NYPD choir has finally recorded "Galway Bay", would it be a more appropriate anthem for the Galway footballers at matches?
Irish soccer, Munster rugby and Galway hurlers ring out "Da Fields of Athenry".. So, maybe leave that to those crowd.

Just interested in how that works? It's a very good idea. I presume it's the best club players who are a bit off the county panel aged 20-25ish. Would it be a full panel of 30+ and how regularly would they train?

Not sure if it would be a full panel. They could probably supplement the U20 or the seniors for games

I'd imagine the best way to do it would be pick players that have shown the necessary skill set but maybe are lacking on one thing eg conditioning side and because they are out of the under age set up bed to be kept in the system some how.

John Maher is a prime example. Showed promise but lacked something. Really kicked on last year and now looks like a thoroughbred midfielder. Not sure if that has anything to do with a dev squad but point being there is serious potential with later developers

That 15 spot is going to be an issue again this year. There is no good corner forward option to go with Finnerty and Comer unless you just put Sweeney there and he plays as an extra defender.

Been there done that.
Tierney will do well in Mickey Mouse games v lesser opposition but come Big Crunch games he'll be inconsistent.
Heaney great servant but time to move on, ditto with conroy.
Sean needs to be out further at 5 or 7, why not try fitz at 3 he did well on AoS.
Need to uncover a few gems in the forward line, good quality defenders but 8 up is a worry, Mcdaid prob won't be back until February or march so he'll have missed a big block.

Just wondering if there are any clubs around Galway City that take in college based players midweek or are there any sessions ran for lads based away from home by anyone around Galway?

Any new lads ready to make a burst for starting place?

How did Sean Mulkerrin play in club championship? Is he back to his best and could he push for a start?

James McLaughlin has had a horrific couple of years injury wise and is still very young. How was he for Moycullen this year? Could he push on?

Any young lads??

Agreed re Tierney.

Disagree re Heaney / Conroy. Up to younger players to step up and take their places which they have not done to date.

Unless Shane Walsh and Damo are both at 100% fitness we'll be no where near an all Ireland in all honesty. None of our other forwards would put any sort of "fear" in a decent defender.

Tierney is grand as long as he isn't one of the six or seven main players you are relying on. Unfortunately for the last 2 years he has been far too central to the game plan. Will be interesting who gets tried in the league in those forward spots - expect to see a good bit of Cillian O'Curraoin, Liam O'Conghaile, Culhane and possibly Patrick Kelly.

Mattie Tierney is only 23, lads. Not many players dominate games day in day out in their very early 20s these days. Yes, there are certainly a few exceptions but a lot of players need to hit their mid twenties to have the physicality, develop the experience and game smarts up to the level needed at top grade IC. I've a lot of hope for Tierney that he can drive on to the next level and become a real star for Galway. He has it all. He's been developing. The consistency will come.

Big game for Jarlaths next week knowing they have to win to go through after surprisingly losing to Ballinrobe CS. Claregalway look like going through handy enough from the other group.

Sorry, No Heaney, are you Mad. Galways most underrated player. Also no disrespect to Sweeney but Glynn is a way better footballer. And Joyce is very loyal to Gleeson and Flaherty does not have the long kick out skill set. I have watched a couple of University matches and O Connaire from Spiddal is a great prospect and Kilcommons and P. Kelly dominated the middle of the field in the two matches I saw for NUIG but probably not a midfield options for Galway. Both have more football that Maher but Maher is 6 foot 4 which makes a difference. O Flaherty needs to be given more time on the field, he will learn nothing on the bench. So Gleeson for Flaherty, Glynn in for Sweeney, Cooke in for Maher, Heaney in for Cooke. Cunningham is not at the level for county. And I don't know about Canney maybe a third midfielder in at 15 and bring him out the field. Maher and bring him out the field?
