Pretty poor display from Galway. It's like they had a heavy training session yesterday. Toothless in attack. bloodyban (Limerick) - Posts: 1710 - 27/02/2022 15:38:56 2402704 Link 1 |

Well a large element of shadow boxing going on with a few of our best championship starters not even featuring from the bench. Dont think that game will have any bearing on the Round Robin game in the Park in a few weeks. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 15557 - 27/02/2022 15:45:22 2402714 Link 1 |
Yes a very poor display by Galway and they looked slow and heavy legged without any real direction in their play. They also didn't even threaten a goal for the second game in a row. Without Whelan in the full-forward line they are toothless in attack and Cathal Mannion had an off day also which didn't help. Daithi Burke and Darach Fahy gave away a gift of a goal when Galway were level in the second half which killed any momentum they had. Wexford fully deserved their win in fairness even though they are no world beaters themselves. Hard to see Galway winning anything this year (even the league) at this stage. tommy k (Galway) - Posts: 3470 - 27/02/2022 15:55:02 2402719 Link 5 |
It's a good preview to show how poor Galway hurling are.. Toothless in attack and going nowhere fast this year.. Belclare (Galway) - Posts: 904 - 27/02/2022 15:55:08 2402720 Link 6 |

Congratulations to Wexford. I was out running and didn't see or hear the match. Just saw the score. Galway Abu. Trump2020 (Galway) - Posts: 2488 - 27/02/2022 17:27:34 2402760 Link 0 |
Love to see what? Wexford were the better team on the day but no All Irelands are handed out in February as the old saying goes. We'll see how it goes when the 2 teams meet again in the championship but Wexford are now hot favourites no doubt as you would agree.

"Wexford fully deserved their win in fairness even though they are no world beaters themselves" You could have just complimented your opponent on the win without the dig. ChinCanHurl (Wexford) - Posts: 302 - 27/02/2022 18:20:23 2402779 Link 3 |
Whatever about it being the league, weakened team etc, it was very very poor and nothing positive will come from that performance, only negatives, no expert on body language or anything but I walked past Cathal Mannion on the way out and he looked absolutely disgusted. Ah I don't think Henry is going to mind that performance. I'd say he wasn't pushed about it. He wouldn't want to give Wexford fuel for the championship in Wexford . Now I'm surmising here because if it was a genuine Galway performance it was dire. Back to the garbage of last year and a big step backwards. bloodyban (Limerick) - Posts: 1710 - 27/02/2022 18:33:46 2402783 Link 2 |
If there was a vote for the least intimidating home venue in the country, Pearse Stadium Salthill would top the poll. For many supporters it doesnt feel like a home venue , not sure if any players feel that way. And then there's the wind! I wasnt at the match today and Im not making any excuses in case it comes across that way. By all accounts Wexford deserved to win. Looking on the bright side, we wont be complacent when we go to Wexford Park anyway. Without Conor Whelan our attack has no cutting edge. If Concannon's injury keeps him out of the championship he will be a huge loss. Morrissey will be a loss at corner back too if he doesnt recover in time. We have a lot of talented young players and it's still about trying to come up with the best combination and find the position to place them on the team. Look at Cianan Fahy for instance, afaik played in the forwards today and played very effectively at half back in Fitzgibbon. Ditto Fintan Burke...much better at FB or on the half back line but trying to fill a problem position for us at corner back. We are still not a fully settled side and for that reason my expectations are not high this year but often that is a good thing! Pearse Stadium is a soulless place. It's not suitable for hurling, it's too windy and so exposed beside the sea. I think Galway hurling supporters have very little affinity with the place. Id say Galway would be better off selling it and reinvesting the money in Tuam and Athenry.

I live in the city but would happily travel to Kenny Park rather than take the walk to Pearse stadium, very rarely any atmosphere there and always bloody cold lol
