Yes ....... 2nd half in particular showed improvement we have been hoping for .Played as a team. Full marks to management for changes made by substitutions. Yes clear evidence that learning is top priority. Great to see our lads reported to be ENJOYING training this year. No doubt our faults and shortcomings to day will be addressed now to stick with the agenda of continuous improvement for training sessions It was encouraging to see Shane Walsh deliver as we saw he could a couple of years back. .Perhaps the chat and hand on the shoulder from the right person can do the trick Being the cheeky person i suggest we have one more forward of good size who might benefit also from a chat .He did not play to day.He may need a confidence boost also .I do believe that long quick ball to the forwards will reap rewards for us.as an option..All in all yes it is early days ,and opposition will be stronger as we go, no doubt but encouraging to note learning taking place For this poster the clock for continous improvement starts ticking to day . Thats the only show in town We play to our full potential and see where that leaves us. Clearly massive workload ahead but early signs are encouraging particularily when players report training is great craic ,enjoyable and tough! Nice balance ! . .. nobull456 (Meath) - Posts: 1266 - 29/01/2023 16:12:08 2454972 Link 16 |
Wow,We got the performance and thankfully the win.I was wrong(delighted to be)about home advantage getting Cork over the line.Well done to Colm and management team and of course the team on a super win.Shane Walsh was very good today and Keoghan wasn't far behind him thought he covered the back line very well as his man was dropping deep.I thought the subs who came in done well and were effective. We kicked alot of diagonal balls in today and while they didn't work in the 1st half(as much) they did in the 2nd.While I'll not get too carried away it's a great start and will do the confidence levels the world of good. Its good to see us kick that scoreline as well.Hopefully we can back this result up v Clare next week.It would be great to see a big crowd next week in Navan looking forward to it.

Delighted for all involved. A lot of outstanding performance's. Shane walsh was different class and Donal Keoghan's leadership was contant throughout the whole game. Very winable game next week if Meath apply themselves in the right manner. Sheridan2010louth (Meath) - Posts: 181 - 29/01/2023 16:37:16 2454988 Link 1 |

Great result today, patchy first half but played second half on our terms. SW has a great game, showing the skills and leadership today that we all hoped to see. What struck me most was the confidence running right through the team. Issues sorted at h/t left Cork dependant mainly on frees. Hard to remember a better display from Meath, great start and well done to all. seadog54 (Meath) - Posts: 2195 - 29/01/2023 16:53:25 2454994 Link 6 |

Great performance and even better start to the league. Alot to work on but you could see the players growing in confidence. Full forward line was lethal. Foley91 (Meath) - Posts: 418 - 29/01/2023 19:34:20 2455072 Link 0 |
Some humble pie for me, Walsh was outstanding, 1-4 from play was impressive. Thought Keoghan, Flood, McGowan, Jones and Morris along with Adam O Neill when he came on were fantastic. UsernameInvalid (Meath) - Posts: 403 - 29/01/2023 19:40:47 2455076 Link 0 |
They looked like lads conditioned to play Gaelic football, as opposed to rugby like in certain previous years - hopefully the vast majority players remaining injury free will be a consequence.

Agree with the others commenting about the team mentality, particularly in the second half. No real signs of panicking, just a fluid approach. Physicality, support, no dropping of the head - very like a Meath of old! RR (Meath) - Posts: 165 - 29/01/2023 20:21:47 2455096 Link 2 |
Harry is definitely no1. Kick outs are still a major issue. But there's not much he can do. Hate to be negative going forward but I couldn't help but feel we need Brian menton back. I know he's made his decision and we have to respect that. But if there was any chance he might give it another go it would be brilliant

Vital to get a huge crowd to Navan next Sunday with game against Clare , we should now help to make Pairc Tailtean a fortress to help get a result , well done today lads , keep up the good work all be it early in the year. Oldsam (Meath) - Posts: 32 - 29/01/2023 20:31:44 2455108 Link 1 |
Have to say McGowan and Jones were far from fantastic, both we're outplayed by the Cork midfielders, i counted 5 times Ronan Jones had poor kick passes that were turned over. I understand COR wants more kicking but Jones just seems to lump it in with poor execution.

Just watched it on TG4, we were under serious pressure in first half, but this time we did what decent teams do, stuck in there and kept it manageable, and when things started to go our way we nailed the chances and saw the game out. Plenty to work on but a very positive start. seadog54 (Meath) - Posts: 2195 - 29/01/2023 20:49:51 2455119 Link 5 |
Agree. Not long home and watched game back we were under serious pressure in first half ,and our kicking game wasn't working at all. We reverted back to our more used to running game that cork had problems with in previous years and it paid dividends, so yes we have a plan b. Think we played a lot better when we mixed it up

Midfield was poor today. Jones more comfortable running with ball in hand so may be something to work on. That's the thing after watching back there is room for improvement , it was not as good a performance as I thought been there, we made errors. So yes plenty to work on but still played well and played with confidence, the difference I noticed was when we made errors the heads didn't go down which has happened in the past. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 29/01/2023 21:09:52 2455133 Link 2 |
Great result yesterday and great to see the team play with a lot of confidence. Great to see them having a cut and putting a lot of tackles in around the middle third in particular in the first half. Brilliant to see Walsh play so well. We've all seen his potential but I questioned whether it would happen for him at full forward line and he answered the question and was superb. Still felt the half back line was a bit loose. Hickey doesn't look comfortable there. Adam O'Neill done well when he came in and will probably start against Clare. Midfield also struggled to get into it hopefully they improve this weekend. But a great start and confidence boost LeitrimRoyal99 (Meath) - Posts: 1523 - 30/01/2023 07:56:15 2455151 Link 3 |
