Cork V Meath NFL Rd 1

Thoughts ? Potential team ?
I'm hoping for a strong showing , there's a lot of talk about cork. But surely if there is any man managing a Meath team against a cork team it is Colm that will bring out the best in us. Hoping to see the kicking game work better and use the hand pass if it's not on, heads up and don't take pot shots if there is someone in better position.

Hogan, Ryan, Flood (McGill if he can play), O'Hare, Keoghan, McEntee, Harkin, Jones, McGowan, Scully, O'Connor (Walsh if he can play), Cillian, Costello, Morris, Lenihan would be my team. Cork seem to be moving well and do have a good talent base but have been a confusing case the last few years. Think the open space of Pairc UiChaoimh could suit us but if I had to predict now I'd give Cork the nod

I hear the 20s have there first outing of the year Saturday night at 7pm against cork in cit grounds I believe, might not be a bad watch for anyone making a weekend of it

Would love to but unfortunately traveling down and back same day. Pity that I'll miss that one. Pivotal year for the 20s

Tough game but certainly winnable, I don't see that Cork have changed that much since last year and I'm not putting any particular stock in either their, or our, pre season. A positive result in PUC could be crucial to the entire league campaign and I think Colm knows that well, can't make the match unfortunately, will it be on GAA Go or some such streaming platform does anyone know?

The Team I would like to see is:

1. Harry Hogan
2. James O Hare
3. Conor McGill (hasn't featured so far so will probably be Flood or Ryan)
4. Donal Keoghan
5. Cathal Hickey
6. Shane McEntee
7. Eoin Harkin
8. Ronan Jones
9. Jack Flynn (Again hasn't featured so most likely won't play with McGowan looking like hes fancied here)
10. Jason Scully
11. Daithi McGowan (If he goes midfield, then Jack O Connor into the half forward line, possibly on the Wing and Cillian to 11)
12. Cillian O Sullivan
13. JordanMorris
14. Matthew Costello
15. Diarmuid Moriarty

I think at this stage Keoghan needs to be moved back tot he full back line to add a bit more steel to it, we have a number of decent options in the half back line but are still coming up short behind them

Not so sure. Might be on clubber.ie. From what I've heard there is deferred coverage on tg4 on Sunday. Don't know if that's right or wrong

I dont know why but i cant shake the idea or feeling that were not going to win this. I know for years we couldnt buy an away win in the league in div 2 so maybe its ingrained , but on the other hand we do have a good record in cork in league over the last few years. away wins against half decent teams in the league are as rare as hens teeth for meath. cork are probabaly the only big team we have beaten in league away in over 20 years. going by that it looks like meath may only win 3 of the 7 matches this year, v louth, limerick and clare

Not sure on my team yet, still mulling over a few positions and players.

On Cork, they are a sleeping giant who I hope sleep for a little bit longer. They have had so much underage success in the last 10 years with 1 munster title to show for it.

The first two games for me are vital, win both and you will be in contention for promotion. Lose both and you are starring down the barrell of division 3.

Cant see us getting anything from this game for one simple reason - our scoring stats haven't shown any noticeable improvement.

True. However I would HOPEFULLY put that down to preseason rather than a general trend. Hopefully

In fairness i think we can only begin to measure improvement from when we have reached a stage where the panel of 20 or so is relatively settled. I believe we have maybe just about left the largely experimental stage.

Put up a decent score v Donegal at the weekend winning by 8 or 9 points which is encouraging though I think Donegal will struggle this year. Don't know if any of the injured players played? Jack Flynn won't be for for Cork anyway, he hasn't played any Sigerson games yet due to injury.

I fancy us to get a win here, 2 maybe 3 points, nothing fancy, nothing glamorous about the performance but workmanlike, cillian o'sullivan for motm.

Interesting, any idea where that was played?

That's excellent news.

if we do get a win against Cork, then i would firmly believe we can get wins against clare, limerick and louth. just cant see a win newbridge in a big dearby match v kildare and id right off derry away definitley.

can anyone with spare time put up our div 2 away record for the last 15 years? i cant remeber beating Cavan, Monaghon,Armagh, galway, rosscommon, kildare, tipperary, down ,derry away from home in that period? maybe im missing a famous win there somewhere.
Draws in Ballybofey, hyde park and clones were very good results but we get very hard to get over the line in those away games against teams at oor slightly ahead of us.
Cork, clare and westmeath are the only games i remember us winning away against. i wouldnt count other weak counties like laois, louth ,offaly.fermanagh
