If you read my comment you would see it refers to how well the Ratoath players performed despite no proper football training. Showing that this club has amazing talent at this time. Wolfe tones showed how a well organized club working intelligently can succeed with smaller numbers. If run similarly Ratoath could represent Meath well in the All Ireland Club championship. I did not mention the committee who are decent people. It is your comment that implies they are responsible for the silly arrangement with hurlers. Whoever is to blame is not important but they need to be excluded from decision making in fairness to the players. Anyone with basic knowledge of sport won't need it explained why training footballers and hurlers in shared sessions won't develop potential. I think he was voted by the players to be captain, from what I understand.. Re his performances for Meath, I actually think he's a bit underrated and has improved over the years. I think he's the kind of player Boylan would have picked, he always had a couple of players on a team who you wouldn't pick out in a club game as inter county. He's ferociously hard working and committed every time he plays and that's all I want from a Meath player. Crinigan (Meath) - Posts: 1352 - 09/11/2021 08:57:17 2388837 Link 10 |
Well said - points well made and on the button! Great win for Tones - I wouldn't have had them in my first 4 picks to win Keegan at the start of the season so a big piece of humble pie needed! Next year is setting up to be really interesting for SFC. Will the less fancied teams get a boost from Tones winning? Will the likes of Simonstown, Ratoath and Dunboyne refocus and come back stronger! I think Trim will be an interesting watch also - looked head and shoulders above everyone else in Intermediate and maybe the two losses in the previous years was a good thing! They looked like a steely outfit at the weekend! As for the Meath Dublin thing - I really agree with you on that - at the end of the day, every club player in Meath wants to win their county championship! I'm sure the Dunboyne lads are gutted this week! I'm sure the Ashbourne and Ratoath lads were gutted after the semi's! ASaminthehand (Meath) - Posts: 422 - 09/11/2021 09:07:20 2388839 Link 0 |
If so that's fair enough and I understand the choice. For some It'll always be a case of his father is manager and he could've picked 14 other players so on and so on. I agree with your point, Boylan might've known how to use him. I personally think he's not an awful player as you say fully committed and hard working but tat will only get you so far, he's not a player who you'll win leinster and all irelands with. He'd be a useful option of the bench to freshen things up but not start, especially now with 6 subs he'd be ideal to come in and give you something for 15/20 minutes at the end of a game. I think as another poster said Dunboyne are using him as a wing back for a reason and accept that and think it's probably his best position. Unfortunately i think we've an excess of wing backs and no man able to play the middle and hold it, which is what is needed. If you look at Dublin, Small rarely if ever leaves the top of the D unless he's chasing a ball out. His corner and wing backs know they can go up the pitch with Small and Byrne/ Cooper sitting back and keeping it tight. We lack a six to do that. brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 09/11/2021 09:52:58 2388853 Link 7 |
Dunboyne may go to the transfer market again and. Try get a decent forward in

Really..... Is there any need for rubbish like this? Kicking a club when they're down says more about you than them. brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 09/11/2021 11:35:01 2388872 Link 7 |
Brian I tend to ignore everything this "Analyst" says. Always trying to stir on the forum. Anyway well done to Tones on Sunday. They were the best team throughout the championship and while others thought Dunboyne were favorites as they had in theory "better players" the intensity of the Tones type game was hard to match for any team. The last quarter was horrible football to watch as a neutral but when your leading you do what you have to do to spoil the scoring opportunities.

Fairy embarrassing, there was only one club who had a player transfer to them from another club in Meath on the senior final and it wasn't Dunboyne.

Congratulations to the tones on an emphatic result. GAAEnthusiast2014 (Meath) - Posts: 1 - 09/11/2021 13:32:44 2388900 Link 1 |
LR who was a transfer for Tones? I only ask as i don't know. I think Dunboyne had Conor Bradley transfer in from Ramor United in Cavan, but that was more to do with his work commitments i believe?? And haven't the Lowndes brothers always played for Dunboyne?? So can't be that to which is being referred I don't have problem with anyone transferring in from another county and playing here based on a change in work circumstances, i.e Michael Farrell/y played for Leitrim and then transferred to Na Fianna, and the two keepers Davy Byrne and Shane Duffy played for Dublin and Monaghan but were living in Ratoath. It's not as if this was like when Evan kelly moved from Drumree to Simonstown.. brian (Meath) - Posts: 1973 - 09/11/2021 14:11:06 2388907 Link 7 |
I don't think the Lownes brothers played with them, didn't they transfer in a couple of years ago. Anyway it doesn't really matter they lost the game. I have to say that I had Dunboyne winning with ease 10 + to be honest. The Tones took the game to them and had a plan. Dunboyne had no plan and couldn't penetrate the Tones defence. Tones were down to 14 men for 10 minutes and still outscored Dunboyne. I thought Dunboyne were very lucky to finish with 15 on the field. Some of the tackles were head high and dangerous. How you can bump a man and get 10 minutes yet take a man's head off and stay on the field is a mystery. Anyway congrats Tones enjoy the winter

Good win for the Wolfes Tones they deserved it, they held the 2 to 3 point gap most of the game. Thomas Oreilly was very good in first half he did a lot damage, I good skills on show as well. Tones backs where excellent, Some brilliant turns overs especially at the end. I dont watch all that much of club games, I am not sure if Cian ward plays around the middle normally or not. But for me this was a master stroke, he was very effective there as play maker setting up attacks etc, With the tone playing 2 men in forwards, he was never going to quick enough in there, and was much more effective in the middle 3rd. Wish the Tones well in the Leinster. bobkarlgees (Meath) - Posts: 1265 - 09/11/2021 15:30:34 2388921 Link 0 |
Cian Farnan, the Tones goalkeeper, transfered from St Ultans to Wolfe Tones. Not sure what went on there, as St Ultans and Wolfe Tones are not exactly miles apart!

I agree, Shane has improved a bit. But isnt most people going to improve if they are around a county setup, and getting the massive game time he gets. Its most likely Shane will remain as Meath captain, and he will play every minute of every game like he did this year.

I don't think the Lowndes have always played for Dunboyne but I believe their whole family are originally Dunboyne including family still living there but I am open to correction on that.

Not sure about that, Conor Bradley was transferred from Cavan. Where was Robbie McCarthy all year another transferred in player. If they had him they would have been a lot of stronger as they were too reliant on Lenihan.

Should've known that, Farnan is a Bohermeen name alright. They're not miles apart is right but he might've married into the Tones. I know Richie Brady used to play for Tones and transferred into Kilmainham after marrying into the club
