Cork goalkeeper Rory Twohig said “self-belief” helped get the Rebels over the line against Tyrone in last Sunday’s All-Ireland minor football championship final.

Having trailed by nine points at one stage in Newbridge, Keith Ricken’s side produced a remarkable comeback in the second-half which was topped off by Eoghan Ahern’s late goal as the Leesiders claimed their first Tom Markham Cup in seven years.

Speaking EchoLive.ie, placed ball specialist Twohig said that the 2-16 to 1-16 triumph was “probably the best day” of his life.

“We said at half-time — we weren’t where we wanted to be,” he explained.

“We wanted to be ahead. There was a very strong wind and we weren’t moving the ball like we did all year. We were slowing it down.

“Keith Ricken just sat us down and relaxed us. We brought it out in the second half. Maybe the first five minutes weren’t the best for us, but we settled into the game. After that, it was unbelievable.

“If you don’t have self-belief, you’re not going anywhere. At the start of the year we said we were going to try and win the All-Ireland. That was the aim. We aimed for Munster, we aimed for the All-Ireland. And that’s what we did.”
