Delaney, McGuinness have red cards lifted

Meath's Cormac McGuinness
Kilkenny hurler JJ Delaney and Meath footballer Cormac McGuinness have had recent red cards overturned by the Central Competitions Control Committee.

Delaney was sent off for a second bookable offence in the Cats' Allianz National League match against Cork two weeks ago.

Television replays showed that both bookings, by Wexford official James Owens, could be deemed harsh, and the CCCC opted to lift one of the yellow cards, thus removing the red from the record for the former Hurler of the Year.

Likewise, Navan O'Mahony's clubman McGuinness was sent off during the Royals' victory over Sligo a fortnight ago following two yellow cards, but the decision of referee Rory Hickey has been overturned on appeal.

Those two red cards were part of a set of three to be rescinded by the CCCC, with Crossmaglen Rangers centre back Danny O'Callaghan's straight red against Kilmacud Crokes last weekend also chalked off.

O'Callaghan can now play in the All-Ireland senior club final against St Brigid's of Roscommon on St Patrick's Day.
