McCloy warns of more ground capacity cuts

The chairman of the GAA's National Infrastructure Safety Committee has warned than more GAA stadia will have their capacities reduced for health and safety reasons.
Pairc Ui Chaoimh in Cork, Pairc Tailteann in Navan and Newbridge's St. Conleth's Park have already had their capacities slashed, and it's believed other well-known provincial venues, including St. Tiernach's Park in Clones, will also have their capacities cut following the publication of the Slattery Report, which Seamus McCloy commissioned, on December 9.
Grounds in Northern Ireland will be unaffected because of tougher safety restrictions in the UK.
"Everything's fine until something happens," former Derry chairman McCloy told the Irish News.
"Nothing has happened, but we don't want a Hillsborough, or an Ibrox or a Heysel Stadium. We're a long way away from having any of them, but a lot of sports grounds do have a lack of investment in them.
"There are health and safety issues at some grounds. The majority of the stadiums are fine, but there has been a lack of investment at some.
"To be honest, most of the stadiums have more capacity than they'll ever need, so a decrease is not going to affect most of them. The majority of the stadiums were never at full capacity in any case."
