'I will never look at it again'

Patrick Horgan doubts if he will ever be able to watch a rerun of this year’s All-Ireland SHC final.

Favourites Cork suffered an extraordinary second half collapse against Tipperary, prompting the championship’s all-time leading scorer to bring the curtain down on his 18-year senior inter-county career a few weeks later, and without a coveted Celtic Cross. While the Glen Rovers sharpshooter expects the team to review the footage ahead of the new season, he has no intention of reliving last July’s heartbreak.

“I’ll never look at it again anyway,” Horgan told the media at a GOAL Mile event yesterday.

“I’d imagine the boys gone back now for the year ahead probably will review that game. They might look at it as a team and see where they think it went wrong, and this and that, but not for me, no.”

Horgan was appointed as a county U20 selector this week and is looking forward to working with the next generation of Cork hurlers.

“All these players are looking to play at a higher level than even this, and play for Cork. If I can help them along the way in any way at all that would be great,” he continued.

“Not having coached before, this grade I suppose will help. If I was to go back, say to an underage team, what could I share with them?

“Whereas with the 20s, they’re all fellows that are looking to get to the Cork senior team, and having learned what I’ve learned over the years, the biggest benefit I could give them is probably my experience over the last few years.”
