Kilcormac Killoughey celebrate with the Ashling Murphy Cup

U12 Championship:

Our U12s had a busy week with matches against Birr and Tullamore. The girls were beaten by Birr on Monday and then had a strong game on Tuesday to beat Tullamore.

U14 Championship:

Our U14s won against Ballinamere on Thursday night after a thrilling game.

K/K started quick with Saoirse Murphy sending in a long high ball that was cleared by the Ballinamere goalie. Ballinamere were then on the hunt for a score with Rosie Hynes clearing a ball from the corner. Ballinamere were not deterred however and had their first chance at goal. Emma Feighery made a brilliant save and the ball was cleared by Cliona Mannion out to Cora Guinan in midfield. The K/K forwards were then back in possession but pressure from the Ballinamere backline meant that Adele Daly Brady was forced to put the ball wide.

Izzy Geraghty then had a pop at goals from midfield but was unable to get past the Ballinamere goalie. After 13 minutes, K/K’s first score came with Cliona Mannion hitting a 45’ over the bar. The K/K forwards threatened again with Saoirse Murphy hitting a high ball into centre forward Megan Talbot who was denied by the Ballinamere goalie. Ballinamere then looked to gain their first score and put the K/K backline under immense pressure. After a tussle in front of the goals, Cliona Mannion gained possession of the ball and cleared it. But the pressure continued and goalie Emma Feighery made a crucial save to stop a Ballinamere goal. The first half ended with K/K leading after a tight competition, 0-01 to 0-00.

The second half started with another save from Emma Feighery, followed by Ballinamere scoring their 45’. Shortly after Cliona Mannion hit a free high into the forwards but was cleared. Wing back Mikayla Commins came forward with a brilliant chance of a score but the relentless Ballinamere backline forced her wide. The Ballinamere forwards managed to get the ball and made a run straight through the middle and scored their second point. Megan Talbot won a free that Cliona Mannion converted into a point leaving the sides level again. Izzy Geraghty won a free soon after in midfield and Cliona Mannion sent the free high into the forwards and it slipped into the top of the net.

For the next ten minutes, the Ballinamere forwards worked incredibly hard to score again. Cliona Mannion cleared numerous balls down the wings, Saoirse Murphy dropped back to catch a ball and prevent a score and corner backs Anna McDonald and Alison-rose Meacle worked together to clear a ball down the wing. But after 23 minutes, the Ballinamere goal came. Ballinamere went forward again to score a point, leaving them a point ahead nearing the end of the game. In the 29th minute, Cora Guinan won a free that Cliona Mannion long and high into the forward line but it was sent wide. But the K/K forwards capitalised on a mis-hit by the Ballinamere goalie and Megan Talbot and Adele Daly Brady ran in. Adele Daly Brady got the final hit on the ball into the back of the net ending the game, 2-02 to 1-03.
