Independent TD Michael Lowry has described the actions of those who defaced a sign wishing Killian Doyle and the Kilkenny hurlers the best of luck as ‘the behaviour of mindless vandals’.
The sign, which was erected before the Leinster SHC final by Emeralds – which is the club of Doyle and Kilkenny manager Derek Lyng – in Urlingford on the Kilkenny-Tipperary border, has been daubed and smeared with red paint that reads ‘Up Tipp Abu’ in the lead-up to Sunday’s All-Ireland SHC semi-final.
"Whoever did this is not a true GAA supporter," said Deputy Lowry, who is a TD for North Tipperary and North-West Kilkenny.
"No genuine supporter would behave in this way. They should hang their head in shame for bringing this kind of behaviour to the game.
"Every Tipperary supporter I have spoken with has expressed disgust at this image which is circulating rapidly over the past number of hours.”
