Dunshaughlin 4-15 Killary Emmets 3-9
Dunshaughlin claimed the 2025 under 15 Division 2 FL title after a replay win over Seneschalstown. Fast forward a year and this talented squad were back in the winners enclosure with this nine point win over Killary Emmets in the second final of the day at Grangegodden yesterday.
The winners led 3-8 to 2-8 at the break and after a brilliant start were 1-4 to 0-0 up inside the opening ten minutes. Jamie Quirke got the scoreboard working with a goal from the penalty spot. Quirke, Cian O’Donnell (2) and Craig Foley added points to give the Black & Ambers control. Thomas Loughran opened Killary’s account with a two pointer before referee Robbie Barrett called for the first water break.
Quirke added a second goal soon after the restart and it looked like a one sided affair was on the cards. Killary, who won last year’s U15 Division 3 championship had other ideas. Loughran landed another two pointer before Tom McKeown raised their first green flag. Full forward Jack Smyth got in on the two pointer act and a minute later Ben Gaughran raced through for a wonderful goal. Gaughran followed with a point and all of a sudden Killary were in front 2-7 to 2-5.
Quirke brought Dunshaughlin right back into the game with his third goal and points from O’Donnell, Craig Foley and AJ MacDonald gave them a goal cushion at the break.
The eventual winners made another good start and by the 2nd water break they pushed that lead out to 8 with points from MacDonald and Daimhin Hartigan along with a Chris McEntagart goal. Gaughran gave Killary some hope with his second goal with ten minutes remaining but Dunshaughlin finished with a two pointer from Quirke and one from corner back Rian McCarrick to run out comfortable winners.
