Been to a lot of big sporting events around the world - rugby , AFL, NFL, baseball, cricket...you can have a drink at your seat no problem. Soccer and GAA are the exception. No harm in it. Better to enjoy a drink at your seat than the norm at GAA - everyone horsing in as much as possible pre game on trains and then pubs around Clones, Croker..etc

Like you cant bring alcohol to your seat at the cinema or the theatre and the people do just fine and them events last far longer without breaks

So how do you know so much about GAA matches. It is right that there is no drinking in the stands in the GAA and Soccer in my opinion. Reason because of the young people or children around. Also if there is an emergency it is easier to evacuate if no drink. This is one aspect where the GAA are ahead of Rugby. Well done to them for it.

So there should be no drinking in pubs then because of chances of young people around.

Right up there as one of the dumbest sentences I've ever read.

Some people are well able to drink a few beers in their seats at sporting occasions and not be disruptive to those around them. Like a lot of things a tiny minority can ruin it for most. It's optimistic to think that people can be responsible drinkers at a game and courteous to others around them but going back to no public bars at GAA might affect attendance's and there'd be a significant loss on revenue from these bars being closed.

Are people that childish that they are comparing an addictive harmful drug to talking? No point in debating with ignorance like that. also you know when you go to a pub that that's the reason you go to have alcohol served , the reason you go to a sports event is to watch the sport taking place. it's like father ted on this thread The ones in here are small But the ones outisde are far away

This is completely rational. Why should I be limited from having alcohol because there is the chance of some people maybe upsetting others. That is so ridiculous. Why be so anti liberal? Many people go to pubs for the social aspect and alcohol is a secondary but key part of it. Many people attend sport yes for the game/match/fight but also for the social inclusiveness and the social aspect and they combine that with a night/evening/day out and if they want to have a drink why shouldn't they be allowed to drink? If people are acting irresponsibly they can be asked to leave by stadium staff. Just like any person can be, whether they have drank alcohol or not.

Ormond If they are combining the sporting event with a night out afterwards can't they just wait until the pub bar or club they go to afterwards then?

So you also feel the same about drink driving? Why should you be limited from driving after a few drinks because there is the chance of some people maybe causing crashes. Don't see where your rational thinking is to be honest.
