Royaldunne i presume you were not at the Ros meath match if you think Meath was the better team. It should be a interesting day on Sunday, hopefully the weather improves, a team that has 6 points could go down. When the rest of us were putting our hour on this morning, some Meath posters clocks were stuck 16 years ago.

Again meath-hater was busy in strokestown watching match in hotel ,, id get those eyes checked.
Of course it would be a travesty if another puke football team like rossies replaced Derry , but its our own fault for putting them in that position, only for Meath gifting the most undeserved win in years to far inferior opponent this division would already be decided.
We cant blame rossies, just like we cant blame Derry , they ain't breaking any rules. We had them beat all ends up kicked 20 wides and might as well have scored a own goal. Give me no joy to say its our own fault they are where they are.

If you read back correctly I said that teams in division 1 would have RESPECT for meath I never said that they would fear meath. I said Meath would not fear the teams in division 1 which is correct! don't see what's wrong with those statements. I'm under no illusions I know rightly that meath are not the same team we were in the 80s or 90s. and by the way meath were in division 2 in 2011 not division 3!!

Ros1. I was there twice. But no one could say Roscommon were better. I haven't read or heard one neutral say rossies were better.
If you were there you would have to agree Meath were by far the better team.
I have little doubt we will account for Cavan , but unfortunately that may not be enough.

down were horrendous on saturday. made meath look very good - we were like a poor division 4 team. couldnt hold it, pass, shoot or do any of the basics. embarrassing

Yep ziggy you have a point. There seemed to be alot better balance to the team now Gillespie is back, and got to say for a man starting is first county game in 15 months he was very fit.

Firstly, congrats to Meath team on the win Sat night. Would agree other posters on the overall lack of quality in this division. Every team capable of beating the others on any given day. Only 4pts between top and bottom, only consistent thing this year in Div 2 is the inconsistency of teams. Anyway, upwards and onwards, win against Cavan and let other teams worry about themselves. Fancy we will need Laois to beat Down in Newry for us to get promotion.

Down and Roscommon have it in the bag. Maybe Laois have a say on who goes up but I can't picture it

RD I admire your honesty and directness but you are overegging the quality of Meath and understating the abilities of the Rossies. It is clear you may have an agenda against the Rossies which I think if this is the case should not be colouring what your true opinion. IOn the flip side if this is your true opinion you are off as it is based on incorrect facts. I know these are only opinions but give the Rossies some respect. This is not a forum where the truth and reality never surface. This is a GAA forum where there is a small smidgeon respect for opinion because it is more likely to be based on fact than other fora. The Rossies have made incremental improvement over the last few years and at the very least this should be acknowledged.

Couldn't believe how bad Down were the second half, given the win advantage they wrong assumed the 2nd half would be very comfortable, well done to Meath for taking advantage.

Who knows what will happen next weekend, its been all so unpredictable. We'll see come Championship but I don't see much improvement in Meath on previous years, they'll need a very lucky draw to get to a 1/4 final this summer.

Would give Laois a chance in Newry, Roscommon on the other hand won't slip up. Westmeath after a bright start have gone progressively worse and confidence will be low. Hope I'm wrong but I see an easy win here for the Ros.

Laois usually perform better when people write them off. Kingston is a big loss but you never know with Laois. Interesting to see if Zach Toughy comes back. One of the best for Carlton .

I think Westmeath have the better chance of causing a upset , game in Mullingar plus fighting to remain in div 2.

I felt we would lose to Galway yesterday, but I'm hopeful of a win next Sunday in Mullingar. Westmeath will be fighting for their lives but I think and hope we should have enough quality, provided the U21 players come through Saturday's game in Tuam unscathed.

Well done to Galway who came well prepared and wanted it more than us yesterday. From our own point of view it was probably our worse performance in the league however we still created a number of goal scoring chances and only lost by 4 and were level until the 63rd minute which is encouraging. The bigger picture promotion is still their for us as we enter the last round of fixtures how many of the experts expected that on Feb 1st?. Our gung ho approach of scoring and conceding 17 points per game is what has got us into this position and is 100% proof we don't use blankets like some other sides in this league however for the championship we will need to greatly improve in defence.

Has been one hell of competitive division and with no dead rubber games next weekend it makes for a exciting and tense conclusion.

square_ball_69 my Westmeath friend you have a poor understanding of the blanket defence, to play a blanket defence you need more than dropping players back. We don't put pressure on the opposition forwards we don't force forwards out wide or into difficult positions before shooting. To repeat 17 points we have conceded per game in this years league our so called blanket must be full of holes and you will see for yourself next Sunday and i can tell you now that we won't hold Westmeath to low scores like Meath and Cavan did.
