We played them there in quarter final prelim. They are miles off the pace, You have nothing to fear. Kildare's best chance to come on is not a series of hammerings in championship but in league where they have a nice mix of games they can learn from and a few they might have a chance of winning. Wex/Dub will be key game and coming a bit later this time when we will know what is at stake. We get to play the Cats in last game they might not care about ..... I make a joke! Exactly we need to take it game by game we cannot take anyone for granted. Kildare will certainly be targeting us we will have to be ready.

Dublin bet Kildare 3-25 to 0-13 five months ago in the SHC. We can't take any team lightly in 2026 because we know what happened before with Westmeath but we really should be beating Kildare in Newbridge. Past hurler (None) - Posts: 1001 - 04/11/2025 11:49:12 2642956 Link 0 |

Westies were always a tough enough bunch. They've been around top table a long time. This is huge upgrade for Kildare. Brilliant to see but its a big ask to beat any of the other five or even compete with them. Harsh truth.

I remember a Wexford U20 team coming to Newbridge with nothing to fear 4 years ago too....

Had heard the same rumours myself was hoping it wasnt true. He owes us absolutely nothing though at one stage I think he was up there as the best full back in the country.

Who is the alternative then at 3? Whelan? No one that was on the 26 last year for any of the championship games apart from Jippo would fill you with any confidence going in there.

Molloy (Really a centre-back but can play at full-back) Eoin Whelan (As you said) Michael Dundon Darragh Kehoe maybe? ElGranSenor (Wexford) - Posts: 711 - 04/11/2025 14:15:00 2642990 Link 0 |

Whelan looked a great prospect but has been ravaged with injuries too

Looking through the Wexford People and Aherne said the following.... "With Joe Barrett and Michael Codd already sitting this one out, St. Martin's will be concerned that another key hurler, Diarmuid O'Leary, sustained an injury to his right ankle in the first-half that eventually forced him off early in the second period." No mention of him being injured in the report about the hurling final or the preview of the Intermediate football final ElGranSenor (Wexford) - Posts: 711 - 04/11/2025 14:22:03 2642992 Link 0 |

Martins will be up against it v Na Fianna with them lads missing. On another note, I did hear Barry O'Connor is giving some thought in playing for Wexford in 2026 which is very positive. Past hurler (None) - Posts: 1001 - 04/11/2025 15:43:05 2643007 Link 0 |

Big difference in energy levels between a preliminary QF after a week of celebrating and the 1st round of a Round Robin. Big difference in tactical preparation too. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 17606 - 04/11/2025 18:37:38 2643041 Link 0 |

Know a couple lads who work with him and one of them said he hasn't made his mind up. Hopefully he doesn't retire, but if he does you couldn't blame him either after the last couple of years.

Was a poor enough team Bon. Although the experience definitely stood to the younger lads on it as they reached the next 2 Leinster finals and possibly should've won them both.

Eoin or Dylan Whelan? Don't think either is a Senior 3 tbh. Eoin maybe best at 5 or 7 long term.
