Apologies viking, I didn't mean to sound negative, I was just correcting the poster who said that a win would leave us safe from relegation. A fine performance against Sligo in awful conditions. Controlled the game really well against the wind Yellaman (Wexford) - Posts: 209 - 01/03/2026 15:18:59 2659207 Link 0 |

Well done to the lads, Sligos goal at then end put a gloss on the scoreline for them. We were better all over the pitch, and a 9 point win wouldn't have flattered the lads. Was good to see us finish with such a strong team on the pitch for the last 20 minutes. Hegarty is really building a strong panel. All in all that should be the original job done now, think we will stay up. Now we have a chance to push for promotion. The only negative for me was how few of us were there to see it. Its in our own hands, 2 wins and we definitely go up. 1 win and we might go up. Our score difference is good. 2 very tough games, but both are winnable.

Was a good win, probably deserved to win by more based on our performance. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 18600 - 01/03/2026 16:57:22 2659249 Link 0 |

Well said Viking, these lads really do deserve better support. They are a very committed and " together" group of young men playing a nice brand of football. Always in control today and some of their against the wind were really good, patient scores. Yellaman (Wexford) - Posts: 209 - 01/03/2026 17:36:13 2659265 Link 0 |

Very good win today. Almost in total control of the game throughout. Magpie2 (Wexford) - Posts: 620 - 01/03/2026 19:36:26 2659316 Link 0 |

Congratulations to Niall Hughes on reaching 100 appearances for the county. Shows how consistent and good he has been that he has reached that milestone so long before his 30th birthday. Very comfortable win against a really poor Sligo team. All in their own hands now which is great, will need a result in Ennis. Nolan and Coleman controlled game very well in middle third, there is good strength in depth now, roll on Ennis. FearBeag (Mayo) - Posts: 100 - 02/03/2026 08:21:06 2659399 Link 0 |

To be honest ive been to all home games football and hurling along with the trip to croker and it almost feels like the interest is totally gone from Wexford GAA

Its sad when you consider how many lads around the county would tell you how passionate they are, and Wexford people in general, are about the games, and then so many of them don't even bother going themselves. The Footballers have a chance of going up to div2, and the hurlers have a chance of going up to 1a, now is exactly the time you would think anyone who had even a small interest would be going to the games. And the players and managements need and deserve our support more than ever right now. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 18600 - 02/03/2026 09:27:29 2659413 Link 0 |

Said it on another thread, Wexford GAA TV used to be super for interviews and snippets about everything from local championships to the development of Ferns and the Park. I remember a video about when the floodlights were going up and another one about seats being installed. There was also interviews with team managers.. Dublin do it off a phone with their managers.. a few years ago there were free tickets sent into schools as my nephew got one.. For some reason that has all stopped.. Even cairde Loch garman has stopped sending out the regular ezines..All small things but they all matter.

Couldn't agree more . Wexford Gaa do very little to promote hurling and football particularly to younger people . Surely with the amount of people involved now somebody could do a weekly interview with different players and members of the management team , behind the scenes at training , build up to our next game I.e generate a bit of interest. All young people are on tick-tock and Instagram now we should be trying our best to promote our games to get the young Wexford people interested in going to games.

IF we can get a win in clare what a day our game v westmeath will be of the lads!!!! they would learn so much, for this young team im not sure they are ready for div 2 yet, another year in div 3 would be best in my opinion, in 2 life will be to tough for us yet Stmunnsriver (Wexford) - Posts: 3044 - 02/03/2026 10:44:18 2659436 Link 0 |

As regards behind the scenes stuff no intercounty team from any county allows that sort of access. Why give information to future opponents? Likewise when managers and players did give more interviews they'd never really say anything, only a load of clichés and platitudes. The feeling at the time was that there was no point giving those interviews in the 1st place. There are interviews weekly with Rossiter and Hegarty in the People paper and online as it is, letting us know what we need to know about what's happening in the camp, and any upcoming game. The problem with the online thing is getting lads to read it. You can put up the world of content, but If they don't already have an interest they will just scroll down past it. I dont think anyone is asking for anything too revealing from training . Just 2 or 3 minute videos with light hearted chats with players or mentors and post on instagram and tik tock. Thats where all people under consume their media nowadays. I have young teenage cousins who love playing hurling and football but all they talk about is Premier League as its all they see on these videos. I just think we as the GAA have to do everything to keep young people interesting in going to matches. Another interesting topic was brought up by Derek Kent in his interview with South East Radio yesterday he mentioned ticket prices value and how reducing the ticket prices for the Leinster football championship saw a 34% increase overall in attendances. I think that was mainly down to the novel Leinster final pairing but I would love to see the GAA come up with a more affordable pricing strategy or better value for season ticket. It is an expensive day out if you have a family and try to make Wexford hurling and football games throughout league and championship

Actually asked about Wexford GAA TV myself at one stage as I know the man who tends to know about that sort of thing. Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 3372 - 02/03/2026 13:35:33 2659492 Link 0 |

As regards your last point I know too well the costs involved!!! As regards your young cousins did they watch Wexford GAA TV when it was on? And would they watch videos about Wexford teams now if they were available online? Do they listen to the Wexford Podcast every week? My young lads dont watch anything to do with hurling or football. They wouldnt listen to the Podcast unless I paid them, and it probably would involve alot more money than an ice cream. On the whole they like going to the matches, especially the oldest 2, and both would be very much Taghmon and Wexford supporters at the games they go to club and county, though even those two wouldnt know a heap about the current teams, despite that information being available to them online. When they are online Wexford football and hurling wouldn't be high up on their list of choices of what to look at. The 2 youngest are probably too young to get the whole supporting thing at all yet. The boys enjoy playing the games, which I guess is the most important thing. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 18600 - 02/03/2026 15:22:08 2659528 Link 0 |

Meant to say earlier in relation to the mention in this one about free tickets being sent into schools - I remember that. They were free "tickets" for matches where entry for children was free anyway. The idea must have been to harness some "pester power" - "Mammy! Daddy! I've a free ticket for the match next weekend! Can we go?". And then Mammy or Daddy would have to go buy their own ticket in order to bring the child who could have gone anyway. Whether you see that as very clever marketing or very sly would be up to yourself. Maybe a bit of both! Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 3372 - 02/03/2026 16:10:28 2659553 Link 0 |
