Best of luck to John Hegarty and the Wexford Footballers in their quest for promotion this year! Hopefully the new rules might suit our style of play, although we aren't blessed with long range shooters it has to be said. Our 45 conversion rate when Brooks was out was poor. Great win for the lads. Unlike the hurlers handling and other basics were excellent. Hard to know whether we were really as good as the scoreline suggested or were London just really poor. We have the strongest panel we have had in years. Thought the 2 Hughes, Byrne and Sean Nolan were particularly impressive, although in all honesty everyone played very well. they going all out for it this year, martin o connor flying home for training and games, thats some effort, strongest panel now for maybe 12 years 3.5/1 to win div 4 before last weekend, maybe luck will smile on us this league, was very impressed with pettit at center forward, played a very good link roll , the fact noone pulled out of the squad over the winter says a lot about the spirit of the team, limerick have some good players but im hopeful Stmunnsriver (Wexford) - Posts: 2940 - 27/01/2025 13:52:29 2587914 Link 0 |

Great start for Wexford. The new rules suit Hegarty's style of play really well. Good to see Feeney in goal, his outfield ability could become very useful. Strong panel. Very optimistic for the league. Only Wicklow in this division apart from ourselves have any real hope of promotion. Waterford, London, Tipperary and Carlow are very poor, and Longford and Limerick are not on an upward curve. No so sure about Feeney in goal. unfortunately he was at fault for 0ne if not both goals. he would need to make a hell of an outfield contribution to offset that sort of return. Call me old school but a keeper has to do the basics first. Not going to damn him on one performance and I'm not sure if there is a return available from an outfield keeper. it's a tactical question for management I'm guessing?

I hope your expectations/ predictions are right, but I'm not convinced about the goalkeeper. In tighter game last Saturday, it could have been costly. Hopefully he'll learn from it, his outfield contribution could yet be vital. And it's great to have Brooks back, he too can get involved out the field and he's a very good long-range kicker.

Pettit was excellent for Fintans last year also. Coleman, Scholesey and Higgins hopefully back soon. Fair play to O'Connor. Good player.
