Replying To btwex90:  "Really looking forward to the final round this weekend. Every game in the senior has something riding on it, with 1v2, 3v4 & 5v6 in both groups. Big relegation semi final in Group A, along with Castletown and Kilanerin fighting it out for top spot, while Sars and Martins competing for 3rd place finish.

While in group B, St James could finish the day on top or out (I think, not sure wit the few draws). With a fight for top spot and relegation in the other two. Should be all great games, brilliant to see it all on the line right through to the end.

Predictions

Castletown - Will be close but think they will have too much experience for a young Kilanerin side.
Sarsfields - Another close one, will depend on how Martins approach this. Sars by 1 or 2.
Bunclody - Will be close again but Bunclody are very hard to beat in this type of game, Gorey should be fighting for knockout football but wouldn't back againts Bunclody in a game like this.

GUsserane - think they will have too much for a Shels side that have been struggling so far. GOR by 4
Fethard - FOS by 4 or 5
Crossabeag - think they have too much power around the middle for GB"
Intermediate is similar, Clongeen the only club with nothing to play for at the weekend.

Yes, but there are different levels of "something to play for".

For instance, in that same group, the current top three (St. Anne's, St. Mary's Maudlintown, Starlights) are already guaranteed to also finish in the top three. All they're really playing for is positions to determine which of the Group B teams they'll play in the quarter-finals.

Second, third and fourth in Group B could be any three of Adamstown, Cloughbawn, St. Fintan's, Ballyhogue, and Ferns. Is any one of those so obviously so significantly weaker than the others that it really would be an advantage and an "easier" game for whoever finishes top of Group A?

Or in other words - does it really matter if you come first, second or third in Group A, since you'll be playing any one of five teams of a broadly equal standard in the quarter-finals anyway?

Is Senior really that different? Top 4 in Group A is already determined. Top 2 in Group B are also already through. The loser of Barntown v Crossabeg is going to be in relegation.

Exactly. I was just using Intermediate as an example because that's the one mentioned in your post that I was replying to.

To illustrate the point there: Kilanerin and Castletown "have something to play for" in Group A because their match will decide who finishes first and second. But there's unlikely to be any great difference in standard between the teams finishing third and fourth in Group B.

So apart from the obvious local bragging rights, does it really matter to Kilanerin and Castletown whether they finish first or second, since their quarter-final assignments will be of a broadly equal standard anyway?

Just goes to show my original point of how there are different levels of "something to play for".

You could be Crossabeg/Ballymurn, playing to avoid the relegation final and also to try get into the top four. That's much more of a "something to play for" than either Castletown or Kilanerin have.
