my point iv no worries about surviving inn div 3 [if we get up of course, long way to go], we have a few very good young footballers to come into the team still, the new rules are a gift to our style of play, and hopefully malone can help with our defending, we have 4/5 outstanding 1/2 backs with coleman back we will have a solid midfield, last few years we lacked a natural goal poacher and that might still be the case, a lad that can get a goal from nothing , lyng in his day, lads what would u give to see mattie in his prime play under new rules?, he would be unmarkable in lower divisions, but all that matters now is the carlow game and with london beating wicklow they are playing to save their season after that, so that will be tough and last thing we want is to be going up to longford in last game needing a win, 2017 is a long time ago

As regards Mattie he was unmarkable in many games in the higher divisions we played in in his day, never mind the lower ones!!!!

It will be very interesting to see how this years u20s perform.

We do have some very good young footballers coming through but the step up is huge.

The new rules are good for us, we have played attacking heads up football since Hegarty came in so its not alien to us even though at times I felt we needed to be more defensive and dogged to get out if div 4 but now it's a case of our style is what everyone needs to do anyway but most teams haven't been doing that.

Promotion would be huge, I genuinely believe we can and should be performing as a Division 2 football team consistently at least and hopefully we do get there

Love the optimism, but we haven't had the results in minor or u20 to suggest this. It is better than before and there seems to be some great work going on now but will take time.

Big game for us on Saturday. Lets hope we don't let it slip now. Last year we had two easy wins against Carlow. This year our team is stronger with a solid full back line of Furlong, Sheehen and Martin O' Connor. Loosing wouldn't be drastic but another win would put us in the frame for promotion.
Too often in the recent past we have looked good but leaked goals when the game looked done and dusted.
If we can play like we did against London and Limerick and avoid silly mistakes i think we should win with something to spare.
Bearing in mind that Carlow have 3 points in the bag and i feel that they won't lie down like last year.
Verdict-- wexford to win by 3 points.

Looking forward to the trip into the Park. Hopefully the lads stay focused and deliver a good performance. If they do that they have every chance of winning. There are still tough games to come, Wicklow were in div3 last year, Longford and Waterford have both been bogey teams at times over the last good few years, and Tipp beat us in the TC last year and ended our season.

Don't think Coleman is even back training fully yet. Scholesey is, Higgins might just be by now but surely wouldn't be match fit. Not sure about Cian Hughes tbh. Tbh apart from Coleman I don't think the other 3 would be Senior starters for me right now anyway.

Ah Jack's a baller, and some hurler also. He wnt be waiting too long to be a starter I'd be guessing.

I just had a look at the Carlow page, just to see what the mood is like. One poster in particular seems to think they are world beaters, Cake is a managerial & tactical genius and wexford haven't a chance !!

I can't remember all of the results but I can remember thinking that the results have been better than our D4 standing.

I enjoy following both Wex and Car pages as it seems to me that we all have similar problems and gripes with football coaching etc - football only, let me add, as both your counties are way out in front of ours in hurling. I read that post re the upcoming Wex / Car game and I took it as a bit of tongue in cheek, as did you, I think.

Our minors beat Monaghans last year in the AI Championship. In leinster we beat Carlow and then lost by a point to Wicklow, before losing to Dublin. We ended up losing to Tyrone's minors, but we had a large chunk of our team, the Gorey lads, only back from the US, and we had to concede a neutral venue to facilitate the lads playing also. We had to ask could the fixture be postponed from when it should've been played.
Overall they did pretty well.
