Replying To Blackbog:  "Its a great competition"
It is but I think the majority of the credit has to go to Kildare this year. They've made huge strides forward and have setup next weekend.

Can't see Laois beating Carlow in Dr. Cullen. In Croke Park, yes - but not in Dr. Cullen Park. Mind you, I thought they'd beat Kildare today, and - earlier - that Kildare would be in relegation trouble. How the hell did they lose to Kerry?! Nass are a very good club side and regularly beat and trouble teams from the more 'established' counties. With over half the starting team from Naas, they're obviously driving it on. Surprised it hasn't happened sooner.

Replying To hurlingguru:  "Super stuff from Kildare. Watched a bit on Clubber, Laois missed a lot of chances in the first half but Kildare were full value for the win in the end.

Only scenario where Kildare don't make the final now is where they lose to Down and Carlow and Laois draw.

Massive game in Carlow on Saturday."
We were determined from the off to do well in the J Mc D competition, now we see getting to the final as a real possibility and have one hand on the cup, if / when we reach the final we will win that cup, for sure.

Westmeath are favourites going to Tralee. That would leave Kerry and Down on 2 points with Down having their deserved head to head advantage. Kerry's only hope is that Westmeath are on holiday mode, Kerry go on to 4 points and Westmeath on holidays take Down on the head to head.

Brian Dowling from O'Loughlin Gaels in Kilkenny is a top class manager, had great success with Kilkenny Camogie.

Seems to have Kildare playing out of their skins at the minute.

great to see other counties becoming competitive at the Joe Mc level. A backlash from Laois can be expected this weekend, can see they have the momentum coming into the game against Carlow.

What can be done to keep the momentum going for a county like Kildare or others. It is certainly not relegation back down after one season. These games should be played on the same ticket as top tier. Have a half priced ticket before 2 p.m. to generate atmosphere for these often top class games. It is not placating them or condescending. Also t.v. should be obligated to give equal airtime including the Sunday Game. Time to stop just giving lip service.

Westmeath should be safe? No need for Westmeath to win this weekend. I would encourage Westmeath to be in holiday mode!
Kildare expected to make the final. Hard to call Carlow v Laois. Westmeath favourites in the other game unless they are understandably in holiday mode. Sure why not?!

Would just like to offer congratulations, in advance. We should just call off the game tomorrow. It's really pointless.

Replying To legendzxix:  "I'd see Down as being above Kildare. Kerry squeezed Kildare out by a point. A lot of hurling to be played yet for those battling to retain McDonagh status.
Laois beat Westmeath. Logical enough that Laois are now favourites to make the final. Carlow are the team to beat. Nervous about the favourites tag are you?!"
We are at a crucial stage of the J Mc D tournament as of now, in fairness you will admit your stats have let you down a little bit game on game, nothing wrong with that btw.

As much as I would love to see Carlow win it out, I'm not so sure, in fact I never had them as favourites, from the start I gave them a 50 / 50 chance, I can't call the result against Laois as I have doubts.

It will be a lot easier to access the outright winner tomorrow evening.

Kildare reaching the final will be a surprise to no one.

Had posted before a ball was thrown in we would struggle in the competition. Too much energy spent getting to division 2 for next year which has been achieved. Still think we will avoid the drop, Westmeath will do us a favour

Kildare have been awesome these last three rounds. Definitely didn't see that coming after Round 1! Kildare have made the McDonagh unpredictable this year.

Absolutely, the game of hurling in itself, sometimes the fairy tale endings sure you couldn't write the script.

Watched the Laois v Carlow game on clubber, really exciting game and an unbelievable finish. Hard luck to Carlow, and credit to Laois for keeping going to the bitter end.
As a side note I thought the commentator, don't know who it was, was outstanding, probably put as much effort into the game as the players!

Joe McDonagh Cup
Carlow 2-17 Laois 1-20, Netwatch Cullen Park FT
Kildare 1-26 Down 1-14, Cedral St Conleth's Park FT
Kerry 1-14 Westmeath 2-28, Austin Stack Park FT
Kildare deservedly make the final. Not good enough by Kerry. No complaints. Absolutely terrible. Laois on points difference make final after drawing with Carlow. Carlow beat Down by 21 points. Laois beat Down by 39 points. That's where Laois had the points advantage.

Great game to watch, tough stuff. It was a great 65 strike at the end to land it right in the square too. Commentator was excellent as you said, hilarious at times with the stuff he came out with. Such a change from the usual guff you here on commentary.

Best of luck to the two teams in the final. We should of seen out the game but didn't. Not sure where the referee got an extra minute and a half on top of the three minutes as there were no stoppages in play in that time. Anyway as I said we should of seen out the game either way.
