Replying To Magpie2:  "I see in the Wexford Gaa bulletin for August that two parcels of land have been purchased which adjoins the centre of excellence in Ferns.
That acquisition should enhance greatly the training facilities for all our teams.
I don't know what the price tag was for the purchase.
Also in the bulletin it said that Paul Kinerck and somebody called Micheal Mc Geehan have come on board as consultans. That sounds very positive for the future. We badly need the likes of Kinerck who has outstanding credentials in his role with Limerick. It will surely be a shot in the arm for our down at heel hurlers.
Other items were mentioned which I won't discuss here as it would take too long but you can read the full report on the bulletin if you so wish"
Michael Mcgeehan is from Donegal. He's the Director of Sport with Sport Ireland.

It might not be needed now but who knows what the future holds. Had saw the for sale sign myself and wondered if they would purchase. Makes sense. 15-20 years down the line, they could develop its 18 acres so you you would fit a couple of pitches on it. https://www.daft.ie/commercial-property-for-sale/coolbawn-c-18-66-acres-ferns-enniscorthy-co-wexford/6203177

Ya would agree that it makes total sense to purchase it - lease it out as farmland until it may be needed.
Wexford GAA are well positioned financially also

Need hurlers though, not more pitches.
Paul Kinnerk is a good acquisition but what are the terms of reference and what is he looking at? If its anything other than underage, I fear its a fools errand.
Because Kinnerk was finishing school in Limerick, the building blocks were put in by Anthony Daly and an army of volunteers who also got lucky that a team of top class hurlers came through at the same time.
To me, this rings of "yet another review", but are those who came up with the unsuccessful "Wexford Way" being shown the door with a p45 in their hand?

The Wexford Way was the worst example of advertising speak with no substance behind it that any county in Ireland ever came up with since 1885.
Sorry for beating around the bush on this one Exiled :-D

And as regards Anthony Dalys involvement in Limericks rebuild yes he did good work but most of the work was done by people like me and you on the ground up there.
I'm not saying he's yesterday's man, his achievements off the field were very impressive especially with your native county, but he's doing OK with his bar and so-so punditry, why on earth could we expect him to put his heart and soul into improving Wexford hurling? We have good people in place as it is, people who are only in their current jobs a wet day. I've had a good look for myself at what they are doing, they are well motivated, have Wexfords best interests at heart, put countless hours of their own unpaid time into their jobs also, but most importantly are very capable, and will listen to ideas from anyone involved with hurling and football in the county. I don't think it's fair to judge what they are doing after only 3 or 4 years in their jobs, especially as some of the very big improvements they have made have only come in in the last 2 years.
There are others that will be introduced, hopefully including District u14 and u16 competitions in Jan- March which will increase the numbers of players exposed to top level hurling and football in the county, increased numbers of players and good coaches on development squads, and hopefully winter hurling and football for all agegroups up to minor, not just u12s which was a great start winter before last. The 2nd and 3rd of these were introduced by Clare in the last 5 years. They have got to AI minor semifinals in each of the last 4 years, reaching 2 finals and winning one, all with around the same numbers we have, so are a good example of what is possible given hard work and joined up thinking. Obviously these improvements will cost money, money which our Board will hopefully make available.
Like you I'm not sure we need that land in Ferns, but as a few farmer friends put it, they aren't making any more land. So maybe it was wise to buy it while it was available. Maybe we got a discount also? I honestly don't know but will no doubt find out in time.

I'm taking it from the Bulletin that they're just buying one of the plots - it says "one of these plots, comprising 8.7 acres, was of particular interest...." and later says "sale agreed status has been reached on the plot in question". Not plots.

That'd be the one marked "Lot 2" on the property listing that you give the link for.

Don't know what the plans for it are, but I do know they need to extend the complex building there and that would surely eat into the existing car park, so having the extra space might open up other possibilities.

Anyway, as Viking said - they're not making any more land. Makes sense to purchase it when available, as it could be many years before any adjoining land comes onto the market again.

I did know that, which I found shocking to be honest, although I believe it's more complicated than just not having enough players."
Who from st martins was knocking doors recruiting players?

Fair play to them if they were, there should be much more of that going on around the county, especially in urban areas. I've done it myself.

Did they get an exceptional group of hurlers or was it a plan well executed over a long period of time?

To be fair to them I'd say the latter.

I couldn't tell you. I wasn't there but will ask my auld lad.

We'd routinely get clonard calling in Corish Park. They'll be selling tickets and will ask about youngsters hurling any time they see kids around the house.
