You can't achieve anything without belief, you can't have belief without trust.

I know if I was a player I'd be thinking to myself how can I be open and honest with this lot and trust them. Bad move, terrible in fact and doesn't bode well in fairness for the group imho."
Shoukd be done in private yes. But will any of the players call him out? maybe,
its time everyone involved got their home truths and then see if they can reunite as a group rather than stagbatexand bitch behind each other's back . I know if ideas are player i d be demanfing a showdown .
In a time of player power there should be a clear the air meeting where everyone gets what they want off their chest if u can't handle the truth. You have no business being involved in high level sport.
Truth not personal vendettas I mean . .
It's not go games they involved in .
It' shoukd be done behind closed doors where nothing gets leaked unfortunately in a time of social media and podcasts where lads trying climb ladders and be an influence that does nt happen .
Be lads bating the door down to get out to spread the word .
Time to be MEN again

I wonder who the leaders in the group are now? Matt or Mogie would 100% have challenged that interview.

The O'Connors maybe? That could end in disaster.

Lee, Jippo, Mark, Kevin, Rory, Damien, Shane, Jacko, Simon I'd imagine.

Who do you think will retire? The age profile is pretty good now. We know Chin is staying.

There's one I wish would retire."
Who's that?

I believe he's talking about our current long serving goalkeeper.

There are some fairly timid characters in that cohort. All great competitors for sure.

Matt and Mogie would be two lads that were particularly good at the politics of representing player views to management and getting lads to tow the line etc.

I'm not sure we have any of those characters currently.

A predominantly young team will always find this a challenge.
Nobody is probably brave enough to say "What did Dessie mean"?

Lads may not confront him as he is right about some of them.
Being involved with county set up certainly has its benefits . Scholarships , teaching posts, promotional opportunities, adulation from the young lads lassies expenses, future paid coaching roles . J1 visas travel to America post intercounty. Emigration where if you agree to play with certain teams jobs prospects are better by agreeing to play . Being involved with county squads certainly has its perks .
So just belng involved and maybe doing just enough to stay in contention without exerting yourself has its benefits .
If u were a senior member of team and some of current panel came to you and asked you to ask the question.s on their behalf could u honestly say yes . Or would yiu say well maybe he has a point I d like to see you try harder and apply yourself better instead of coasting . If I was a leader on that squad I would certainly question some of the players and not just few of the the younger ones definitely some more established players are not applying themselves or giving it everything . Least by example not hide That's for sure .

Very harsh to be honest. Maybe could do with somebody a bit snappier on the short puckouts alright, given we only have one forward capable of even contesting the long ball.

There's at least a couple in the forward line that don't give the basics in workrate for me and have been given every chance. But lots in Tipp said same about likes of Jason Forde, we aren't exactly flush with inter county standard players willing to commit to the cause.

Some of this needs to be debunked.
Scholarships : Not a hope if you are only a sub.
Teaching posts : Yes, but a good club player would get this
Promotional opportunities : Depends how you mean. If you mean like Lee Chin in a bath - not a hope. If you mean in work, I would say a lot of players put career on the line for hurling so if anything is true its the opposite.
Adulation from the young lassies : individual dependent, but I would say only maybe.
Future paid coaching roles : Maybe, but no guarantee if you sit as a sub for Wexford for 5-10 years I would doubt it.
J1 : Not too many Wexford subs in America this Summer I don't think.
From this viewpoint, I do not think the subs in Wexford are that good is the problem, some of my club mates played some of them recently and didn't think they were great anyway.

Scholarships are not as available as they were 20 years ago. We lost our prestige.

Do you know what corporate sponsors do in terms of employment opportunities? I've seen this with my own eyes.

They have to be ladies from gaa families bit this is a thing.

Eanna Martin did ok from being a sub.

Richie and James Lawlor both hurling in American.

Yes but are number 29 and 30 over in Boston being put up for the summer?
It is natural that GAA lads and lassies attract, they have a common interest for a start.
I wouldn't think hardly any Wexford players on scholarships now, just like the Fitzgibbon recruitment I don't think the colleges are coming calling.

I don't know what's going on with the colleges to be honest. We're still doing well at 14,16:but less so at minor.

Carlow not being involved any more is ala major factor

Are Carlow now merged in with Waterford?

They are from an academic and administrative point of view, as South East Technological University (SETU), but they field separate teams in competition.

SETU Waterford continue to compete in the Fitzgibbon Cup.

SETU Carlow competed in it last year, but this year dropped to the Ryan Cup (the second-tier competition).

Not for hurling. They are both campuses of SETU but each fields it's own team.

Would 2 colleges combined academically not compete under the same umbrella in Fitzgibbon/Sigerson?
The point still does stand though that Wexford are not producing enough top hurlers for the big colleges to come calling. Nothing is more certain than Sean O'Brien will get calls from all of them.
