Agreed the Tailteann Cup has been a fine addition and you saw today how disappointed Sligo in particular were when they lost. Fair play to Down for buying into it the way they have- it is clear though that they view it as a way to guarantee their Sam Maguire place rather than having the cup in beside their All Irelands if they were to win it.

After the "Greatest game in the world" this is the second most deluded comment hurling people come out with.

Really. Watched 2 crap hurling games this weekend 5 excellent football games. No comparison in my opinion..but thats only my opinion.. I guess hurling people might still prefer the hurling drivel we were subjected to this weekend...but every one is entitled to their own opinion and let's agree to differ. If you don't like football, that's fine , but don't try to tell those of us who love it that we are children of an inferior God because we do.

That's because Hurling people know best. Football is for failed hurlers, it's never the other way around.

Really enjoyed the Sligo v Down game. galwayfball (Galway) - Posts: 1704 - 23/06/2024 22:02:59 2554179 Link 0 |
I wanted Sligo to win that. Nothing against Down (wanted Down to win in 1991 and especially in 1995 and on many other days as well). Take it from an American, hurling is the greatest sport in the world. Name something better if you disagree with me! Gaelic football is a good sport; up there with basketball and baseball and our gridiron! On its good days Gaelic football can be great. Bad hurling? I've never seen and I've even been to Galway and Tipperary, but if it's really bad, then it cannot be better than good Gaelic football! foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 2095 - 23/06/2024 23:04:32 2554190 Link 0 |

You know what there's nothing wrong with that (Down's reason for engagement) either. As long as the best teams are bought in it makes it a worthwhile test for all of the rest. The second tier is meaningful if the top tier is. In my view having Provincial finalists qualifying for the All Ireland is overall worse for the Tailteann teams though. You'd really want it to be the main pathway to a Sam Maguire place. Same goes for the league being a Sam Maguire qualifying method. Why is it hurling people always have to put down football to try and justify their "Greatest game in the world" nonsense?

Hurling is a very exciting game when the best teams in particular go at it but I can never see the bloody sliotar.

Can't be if you have to go out of your way to dismiss another sport that's in no way similar. Would you agree? It's funny how hurling and Rugby fans arr so similar. Both deluded in thinking there's nothing better than their sport and the only way they can justify it is buying trying to put down sports that are far more popular than their own. But the real question is if you hate football so much why are you on the thread about it? oneoff (UK) - Posts: 1472 - 24/06/2024 15:17:51 2554451 Link 0 |

Congrats on the result yesterday. Whatever about the naysayers, outside of the result I enjoyed that game immensely yesterday. Bringing players in from the bench didn't hurt your flow which isn't always the case at that level. It was a disappointing how soft your first 2 goals were and you made us work hard for scores for much of the game. We were very reliant on McBride for much of the game and as you got to grips with him we ran out of ideas. I'd say there's a lot for us to learn from there and maybe even more than the Meath game last year. All the best in the final and 6 of your 7 games in division 3 next year.
