Replying To Pope_Benedict:  "Spillane said it was an anus horribleus for Gaelic football."
He meant annus horriblis. The other phrase means a terrible rear end.

Posters from Longford and such like places telling us how "bad" the football was. Next, my advice on the world economy lol

That's the truth. Give me this year in front of the foul ridden Sh1te of the seventies/eighties, many of which the mouthpiece Spillane was involved in. Terrible stuff it was. Kerry winning All Irelands playing 3 games with the Bomber throwing the ball into the net for goals. I attended 18 Ulster and All Ireland Championship games this year and enjoyed them with the exception of Kerry/Derry, and Spillane's county were as much to blame as Derry for that "classic"

Definitely. A few more year's of that type of football and there will be no one going to games. Was worst year for standard of football that I can remember

The deluded clown returns…. What would Spillane know about Gaelic football anyway…? He only has a drawer full of All Ireland medals… How many have you I wonder..? Monaghan man = ZERO… + zero intelligence along with that…!

Sore man. Imagine the standard when Cavan were winning there AI's a century ago. Anyway, back to the celebrating, great times up here in the Orchard county, your ecclesiastical capital.

So you think Longford people are not entitled to give their opinion on the current state of Gaelic football, only if they share your views- you have some neck.

Good on you. Enjoy it and let Walter Mitty in Cavan spend his time looking up at the post trying to decide if the ball that hit the imaginary post went over the bar or hit him on the head.

No wonder most GAA fans despise Tyrone supporters... the arrogance.

Might be more specific than rear end actually.

As I said you are delusional…. No club would want you doing umpire for them that's for sure but then again you probably don't have a club…. You are now in a minority of one who thinks last season's football championship was great… Did you ever wonder why they are trying out numerous new ideas to change your perfect game…?

Not one bit sore… I was delighted Armagh won but it doesn't hide the fact that the football championship was horrendous…. It's widely acknowledged that the Final was the worst spectacle for many a long year…. I'd take the view of experts over that poster from Monaghan every day of the week…

I hate to break it to you, but my original spelling was intentional, attempting to convey some uncertainty regarding the orifice that Spillane was speaking from.

Has Spillane written one positive sentence in his articles so far in 2024?

Spillane is GAA's version of Jeremy Clarkson, writing controversial rubbish to a deadline for his employer. It's almost as if he's making it up (to quote the great Stuart Lee).
I'm getting really sick of the whole football's finished rubbish, comparing it to hurling / ice hockey / tiddky winks etc. The game is much better than it used to be, a higher quality and a great spectacle for those with an ounce of tactical wit. The kids are playing it in their droves and it's still the no.1 sport of choice on this island. Fact.

Are Derry GAA really going to re spooky their former manager? Disgraceful if they do…
