Replying To Oldtourman:  "You mistake good old Munster Hurling for bullying. Nobody bullies Tipp or Limerick - there are always big boys, who know how to give it and take it, with no whinging after. A magnificent rivalry in the very best Munster Tradition."
"good old Munster hurling " - more wishful thinking...it's long dead and gone as you well know!

Plenty of of it Saturday night for anyone who wished to see it.. Plenty good hard manly tackles, delightful passing, fantastic long range scores taken on both sides and the played at great speed. Nothing wrong with present day hurling, a vast improvement on the turgid slow hit and hope game of some years back

Where's the thread on the disgraceful scenes in Nowlan Park at the Cork Kilkenny match up? If twas a couple of Ulster football counties 'at it', we'd be all chatter.

Replying To Fitzy01:  "Brilliant technical hurler, one of the sweetest strikers of a ball there is but i meant at the very highest level from play in the trenches and white hot heat of championship is he going to grab the game by the scruff of the neck like a prime Callinan or Lar. If he is going to be the main man for Tipp i would have thought just a bit more is required. Jackie Tyrell mentioned it last night, he can't break the line. But i guess if you have someone in there you can pop it off to him at the right time, then you can make hay. I think Tipp need just a little bit more from him or maybe as you suggested, they should be supplying him better."
I'm not sure what more he has to prove given what he has done the last few years. He has scored off all the Limerick backs at this stage and they had to take Nash off him at the weekend. I can see what you're getting on but I think you're well wide of the mark. The likes of Gillane can't do much either with no ball and that's what happened in the second half. I think it was a mistake not to bring him out centre forward early in the second half when Tipp were struggling as he's one of the few people to cause Limerick serious problems in that centre forward role. Eoin Kelly hasn't blinding pace either but no one can say he wasn't a serious hurler. I don't remember Gillane leaving players in his wake either or Patrick Horgan for that matter. You could pick holes in anyone's game if you looked deep enough but Forde doesn't have anything to prove especially given the trouble he has caused Limerick over the last few years.

So good old Munster hurling was a slow turgid hit and hope game! Don't think Ring or Mackey would agree with you there not to mention the fact that you're contradicting yourself again! The biggest skill that ye took pride in your "old Munster hurling" was ground hurling but that didn't win ye many AIs!
There are three skills required in the modern game, possession, possession and a good bit of rugling!

Why? I wasn't all chatter about the Donegal Armagh row. Or the Oulart v Naomh Barrog game .

He's a good player for sure. And a great freetaker.
But I get what the other lad is saying too. I can't remember a big game where he took it by the scruff and got you over the line. So he isn't quite up there with Eoin Kelly, Bubbles, Callinan, Corbett for me yet.

Or Galway, Limerick or Clare hurlers, but then the big three are always above reproach.

Jason Forde is an exceptional hurler

Something everybody, including Journalists, have overlooked is the strength of the wind, which was unusually blowing from the City End on Saturday .Night. Hogan's puck outs were dropping up almost to the Limerick 21, when he went long. A four points lead at Half Time was never going to be enough.

Disgraceful scenes? Haven't you heard of manly hurling, it's what goes on when the top three or four play each other! A slap across the ear, what could be more manly than that! Shhhhh not a word! Wearing helmets - ridiculous behaviour, sure that's not manly at all, for God's sake, not even traditional! Handbags! Sure the modern hurleys are soft yokes, wouldn't hurt a fly! Ha!
Stop your whinging now, good ladeen! None of that ould simulating shtuff or Kiely will teach you!

Limerick v Kilkenny is an interesting league final and for me the 2 best teams in the country over the last few years. Both will want to win it but both will also want to look at fringe players from the start. I like the look of kilkenny this year. They're integrating a new style of play but doing it in small stages which is wise. Hard to break the habit of several generations. Slowly the Nolan Park faithful will come on board. Switching padraig Walsh to the "Barry nash" role is a smart move. Lawlor can now interchange between 3 and 6 with Tommy walsh being tried at 3 whos a tight aggressive marker. Butler then will mark the key opposition forward. Blanchfield gives an aerial ability on the HB line. Conor fogarty looks back to his best in the middle. Switching Deegan to the HF line again is smart. He's physical, quick and can take a score. Hego led him on a bit of a dance last year so maybe the move might be good for him. With John Donnelly and Deegan they've huge workrate there. Drennans free taking ability is top drawer and with TJ, Cody, Mullen, Ryan, Richie Hogan, Walter Walsh, Keoghan they have plenty of options up top.

Lyng is a smart guy and he might just push them to another level. They'll be a serious force this year.

Do you actually like hurling at all? Any positive or constructive contributions to make?

Totally agree, and consistently exceptional. That Tynan fella looks like a right bit of stuff, too. I like the way he plays.

What has forde got to prove??over the last 4/5 years has easily been the most consistent forward..has racked up serious scores from play and an excellent free taker..

Tipp threw everything at Limerick and still came up short. Ominious for the chasing pack. They are streets ahead.

Re Kilkenny Cork, without a VAR style approach how can the referee be sure he is getting the decision right if he is asking Seamus and Paddy on the posts what they saw? Why not have a video ref to help him get that decision right?
It doesn't need to be for every decision but do we want a guess decision or the right decision for serious foul play? The row was handbags but again, why not let the ref have a look?

I made the original comment and feel like its growing legs and going out of context.
He has nothing to prove and is an exceptional player. I just felt, in my humble opinion, that if he wants to go down as one of the true marquee modern day forwards like Callinan or Corbett that a little bit more from play is needed if Tipp and going to contend for titles, No doubting as things stand he is one of the games top forwards.

Easily the most consistent forward? More consistent than T. J. Reid?

Ya thats a fair point. I seen a fairly worrying stat today that Tipp had 7 shots from play in the second half. After 6-7 mins of the second half there was only one winner and Limerick won that game pulling up. They won it at their ease.
Tipp have players to come back which might make a difference but not substantially compared to Limerick. Having said that - where Tipp are at current time and in terms of where Cahill hopes to bring them, any game against Limerick isnt going to define their year but I think they'll need a 70 min performance to beat Clare. We havent seen a 70 min performance in 4 years and remains to be seen if the fitness issues/levels have been improved on yet.
