Mcdonagh is a wonderful competition. We must not allow it to be watered down with notions of helping Christy Ring teams. We will help the Christy Ring winners with a dog eat dog competition so they have to find improvment.

The one point to note is that the team relegated from the McDonagh are too strong for the Ring. It's a foregone conclusion that Meath will win the Ring Cup. If the McDonagh did expand to 8, the Ring winner would be getting a valuable year of harsh lessons.

Never mind Katie, that was. only shadow boxing. Any one of about 8 teams could win the Championship. It is going to be mighty.

Same old story unfortunately from a Tipp point of view. Can only live with Limerick for 35 mins. Limerick just turned it on after half time at their will and blew Tipp out of the water. I thought fitness wouldn't be an issue this year and it's an area that Tipp have definitely improved on but there's no stopping Limerick. When Tipp got tired they gave away far too many soft frees. Tipp have looked like scoring lots of goals all year against everyone but Cahill was frustrated last night that they didn't do more to work a goal. I think our two oldest forwards have been great servants but it might be time to go with the likes of Kehoe and Bowe from the start. There were some positives obviously. I thought hogans puckout were unreal in the first half but he went long too often in the second. Breen has shown he's more than capable and it's something I've been looking for for 7-8 years. Past managers have a lot to answer for on that one. O'Mara done well again on Lynch and has got better every game. Tynan was the one who set the tone from before the whistle was blown and he backed that up which is unreal from a total rookie who was gone from hurling a for a few years. Our bench looked light and we need the likes of Barrett, Mcgrath and O'Meara back to have any chance of getting out of Munster. It's a shame we are down to many for the year but it gives others a great a chance to develop.
Unfortunately for the rest Limerick are only getting going now. Gillane, Byrnes, Lynch, Casey, etc are only going to get better as the year goes on. Kiely will be delighted that they got a test and Tipp went at them as hard as they could. Credit where it's due - they are one serious team

Katser had a cunning half time/full time double for Tipp to be leading by 4 at break and Limerick to win by 6.

340/1.

Limerick and Tipp were given an ideal prep last night for 4 weeks time. You couldn't ask for a better pre championship match than that for my liking. Both managers will be relatively satisfied. Tipp came with the same ferocity and energy they've shown all year. They were deserving of their HT lead. Tactically they were very good on both puck outs esp their own with hogans delivery impeccable. Their handling and movement was excellent. Limerick really drove into it in the 3rd period. I like the fact that kiely allowed the starting 15 to absorb that pressure, recover, get on top and finally take over. The likes of coughlin, murphy, o neill and o dalaigh were all exposed to a good hard test and kiely was never tempted to go to the bench to recover the situation. That can only be positive for group morale. O neill for me is really pushing hard into that starting 15 and o Dalaigh has the look of an eoin cody about him. Tipp will be satisfied but you wonder can they go a bit deeper come april/may. Their squad has been hit by a lot of injuries. They tried to rattle Limerick physically last night and you can't blame them but cahill tried the same trick with Waterford a few times and didn't work. Cian Lynch got a bit if treatment early and it only drove him on. Tipp got a lot of yellow cards but for me it was a very good physical game of hurling that I think most would have enjoyed.

Looking forward to today's match. Very even for me and both will be going hard at it with cork having the free weekend first up and kilkenny have westmeath with all due respect to them kilkenny would love a league final too

That's an awful post to write about a young team who struggled last year and who clearly have come a long way this year. They were always going to get a big shock against a much superior team. Limerick are exceptional at what they do. It can be boring to watch at times. Both teams have good players but size and physicality will always take over. As you well know Galway know all about Munster hurling when we dipped our toes into it from 59 to 69, got walloped every year, ran back across the border fairly quick, walked straight back into an All Ireland semi final every year and still didn't win one until 1980. Another 27 years later another..... I think it's clear you only have eyes for Galway. It was first match this year with some bit. I was in Ennis a few weeks back. Dreadful..... Roll on the championship.

Your own hot air could be heard flying out of you here in Limerick in the 2nd half too Katser. Are you very deflated this morning??

Wrong again Katser, someday you'll call one right in relation to Limerick.

Good run out for Limerick and Tipp too to be fair. Scored over the 30 points mark with the inside forward line not really firing and hegarty, Hayes, Morrissey and Flanagan not on the field.
Thought cathal o neill had a great game, Cian Lynch also played well, he was fouled a lot which led to 4 or 5 tap overs. Barry Nash really got going in the second half. Declan Hannon brilliant again. Hard to believe but I would say he has been underrated in the last few seasons. Hayes and Byrnes get all the attention but Hannon's hurling intelligence and beautiful wristy distribution is off the charts.

On Tipp, they have definitely improved and seem more physical. I thought after 40 mins Limerick might blow them away but to be fair they came back again. Give their forwards any bit of space and they'll ping them over the bar all day long. The question is still there though that when the intensity dial is turned up can the likes of Jason Forde and Jake Morris etc still contribute the big scores from play.

What match were you watching? They raised it 2 gears for 20 mins and the game was put to bed. With 4 starters still to come back. Really rattled i'd say they were.
