National Hurling League 2023

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

The National Hurling League 2023 has commenced. The top dogs have no realistic jeopardy of relegation, giving managers an opportunity to actually play players in a developmental manner!! Westmeath, Antrim and Laois will be battling it out to retain Division 1 status.
Offaly, Carlow, Kerry, Down and Kildare will all fancy their chances of making the Division 2A final. There wasn't much between Kerry, Carlow and Offaly in last year's McDonagh Cup. If they can pick up where they left off last May, they should be the top 3. Down had a good league last year however. Kildare with promotion back to the McDonagh last year will be eager to make a mark. They've started well today, Saturday February 4th, beating Carlow away by 25 points to 11. Carlow have not picked up where they have left off last year. Rogue results can happen in Round 1 however.

watching a great game now Cork Limerick all action, great to watch compared to Soccer Rugby and especially Gaelic Football at present with all the back hand passing. But why dont each team have the helmet in their County Colours and get a sponsers name on them. Easy money there to promote underage hurling.

It's a key means of identifying the other lads on the team! Seriously. Doubt it will change even just for that reason. They have become as personalised as a lad's stick.

On other note, Limerick knocking another lump out of Cork self esteem.

Why can't certain people enjoy the sport they like, without resorting to slagging of other sports, that other people happen to like?

Great turnaround for Cork. Good game to watch and huge crowd. Looked like a really bad injury too. Hopefully, it is not as bad as it looks. Not often you see that sort of immediate medical aid on the pitcn.

The people that do that have an inferiority complex.

Leitrim had a good win away in Warwickshire. Tyrone beat London. Kildare beat Carlow. Roscommon drew with Mayo. Notable results from the opening round.

Yeah, I remember it well.. Cork were back big time in February last year, the red tide and all that. .

The excitement from the Cork crowd last night when the final whistle went was something else.

Seeing people going mad cos they've beaten the all Ireland champions reminded me of us not so long ago.. A reminder of how far we've come in a few years.
Have to say though that it was bad form the booing of Lynch when he came on. Unnecessary and unsporting. Too many getting carried away.

Great game in cork last night..both sides went for it..think limerick management will learn a lot about panel members and some will want to improve..cork completely changed in second half and brought a physicality that is lacking for past 3/4 years..best of luck to Robbie o Flynn, injury looked very serious..one other down side the booing of Cian lynch when introduced, those supporters left themselves and their county down..its a horrible habit which has crept into the Gaa..going by last night it's shaping up to be a great hurling year..

The booing of Cian last night was surprising and bad form from some Cork fans, I always considered Cork fans the best hurling fans you'd come across-years of failure has changed some of them. Best of luck to Robbie Flynn, he'll be a big lose to Cork as his probably Corks most effective forward for the past 3 years. Good first half last night even though I thought our first touch was still poor but we faded badly in 3rd quarter. I thought last night showed the value of Nicky as Cork profited from our puckout's breaking down but we all know we need a goalie to back him up and there will be growing pains, onto next week and we'll get the win.

Anyway, no doubt you had the draw as a part of one of your imaginary bets :-)

Some huge scores put up by tipp and clare, and I don't care who opposition was..huge match in limerick next week...Galway our up big score..think Dublin will be slightly disappointed playing with 2 extra men in final 10 plus injury time..I will accept great comeback after being 8 down..reffing was totally different in all 3 matches..overcarrying allowed in all 3 but the handpass being blow..it looks as if first 3 matches will be taken seriously and then there might be a let up to prepare for championship.i couldn't actually name the 2 teams who'll want to make the final at this stage..I also think Gaa will be delighted with crowds, huge attendances..

Laois and Westmeath suffered heavy losses this weekend. Antrim were respectable against Kilkenny. An early positive sign for Antrim, who'll be looking to be competitive in Leinster.
