Wexford Intercounty Hurling 2023

The point I am making is in Wexford management sometimes needs to convince players to stay - in Kilkenny players need to convince management to keep them.

Small point but big difference

It is. In view of what happened last year it would be best not involve any u20s with the Senior squad. Who was amongst the goals? 9 goals is like a scoreline from back in the 1950s.

How do you mean convince them to stay? When does that happen? Who was the last player?

Bar Corey Byrne Dunbar, Oisin Pepper and possibly Cian Byrne is there any under 20s likely to have any chance featuring with the seniors?
I think Corey has huge potential once he fills out. He seems a classy player with great stick work

I think size is a big problem as regards u20s playing senior in general. Cian Byrne would probably be the bulkiest of those 3 but would still be small enough built by modern Senior Intercounty standards. Hopefully the u20 team this year should go well. Conor Foley should be u20 again this year and is an excellent hurler. Who else from last year is still u20?

Luke Murphy, Jj Twalmey, Shamey O Hagan, Liam Schockman, Darragh Carley, Derry Mahon, Robbie Hillis, as well as Conor Foley, Corey Byrne-Dunbar, Cian Byrne and Oisin Pepper. I'm not sure who else is still u20 from last year. Some very good players in that list.

Eoin Whelan from Fethard and Darby Purcell are fine dual players, Sean Cooney from Glynn all around 18/19, Jack Redmond is u20 again this year, best of the u17s last year were Cillian Byrne, Paidi Doyle and Simon Roche, might be a year to early for them but Byrne is a serious talent he might be ready for the u20 team.

Diarmuid O'Leary from the Martins is underage for u20 this year don't know like the previous names if he's involved in the u20 panel.

Is Luke Roche from Shels on the panel this year? And Simon Roche from Oulart?

If Keith Rossiter gets them often enough there's the makings of a good team there.

Well lads first away trip last Sunday…a cold day but great to see new faces getting a chance only negative I had was did we really have to bring on chin and d o Keene.. surely there was another option there… over played the ball at times in certain areas and shooting let us down at times.. but look no complaints nothing is won in jan delighted to see new faces… for me Damien reck is getting better and fitter every game I see him and has cemented the center back position my man of the match
Lawlor- looked calm and assured
Clarke-did well on his first start
Ryan-solid as usual but needs to stop giving away frees
Devitt-impression again and has cemented a place
Murphy-did well
Reck-class my man of the match
Carty-did ok
Hearne-looks a good midfielder with a good engine
Clancy- did ok aswell
Lawlor- glimpses of the potential he has played well
Banville-drifted in and out took his scores well
Mcguckian- 2 superb catches a work horse we need in team
Dunbar- seems to do better when he drifts out the field
Higgins-poor game but it's all about fitness first for him after been out for a year.. hopefully college form returns
Firman- started well looked sharp drew frees

On the chat on u20 competition interesting that its round robin this year rather than straight knockout- https://leinstergaa.ie/competitions/leinster-u-21-hurling-championship-2023/

Good move in my view, better for players development.

"I would be worried about the future" "we need to be winning these games"

I knew there would be drivel posted in here after the laois game but some of ye outdone yourselves. Its the second week of january in the Walsh cup with a team of young lads. ffs in no way whatsoever do we need to be winning these games I couldn't care less if we lost every one of them as long as lads are getting game time and things are being worked on.

It was Laois first game since last May."
It was the first intercounty game ever for 9 of our team never mind the first since last June."
You were saying yesterday before the game, "All those lads have done well in last year's club championship and/or on previous Wexford minor and u20/1 teams."
You can make all the excuses you want, but it was a terrible result for Wexford. It doesn't bode well for the coming League and Leinster Championship."]Hahahaha you're some yolk.
