Think they will all have individual programs given to them. Wouldn't say collective training has started yet though.

any word on league fixtures yet? Stmunnsriver (Wexford) - Posts: 2974 - 09/11/2022 08:24:44 2446922 Link 0 |
As stated on a different thread somewhere, draft fixtures were sent to counties early last week, and they get something like two weeks to negotiate any minor changes (like playing on a Saturday night instead of a Sunday afternoon) before the fixtures are publicly announced. So I'd expect to see news on them sometime next week. Have heard on the grapevine though that the opening football match is home v London on the last weekend of January, and it's likely to be played under the new floodlights in Wexford Park. Haven't heard or read anything yet, the draft fixture list is with county boards and the bits leaked seemed to be the higher divisions.

is the pre season byrne cup still going ahead?

Yeah, dates have been announced for it - three group matches over the course of a week in January, to include midweek matches. I don't have the dates to hand, though. And the groups themselves haven't been drawn yet, so we don't know who or where we'll be playing on those dates. Pikeman96 (Wexford) - Posts: 2856 - 09/11/2022 12:37:15 2446961 Link 0 |
I presume its going ahead as the Walsh Cup is going ahead in hurling anyway.

Tough enough fixtures but then I suppose any of them would be tough enough for us.

as was said every game is tough now for us but the league fixtures just made getting out of 4 that bit harder, to me our main rivals for promotion are laois and sligo and we are away to both Stmunnsriver (Wexford) - Posts: 2974 - 09/12/2022 16:32:35 2449987 Link 0 |
For sure. And home advantage statistically is huge in the League

While I think we've a chance of promotion I don't think we can be as confident as that, must be remembered next year is our 7th out of 8 in Div 4 so that's very much our level. The fixtures have fallen nicely in that we've 4 at home and Sligo is the only away game with an overnight stay involved, this year we had go to Cavan, Leitrim and London. Looking at teams involved outside of the 2 you mentioned we lost to Leitrim last year, drew with Carlow, while are most recent meetings with Wicklow, Waterford and London were all wins by 3 points or less, I can see it being similar to last year where all our games bar Cavan I think we're tight games to went down to the wire. Anyone hear of new lads in the panel? Hegarty mentioned it in the article in the local scribe last week without given names, we're short Donal Shanley in Austraila and Martin O'Connor in Germany would be a huge loss while it was mentioned other younger memebrs of this years panel could be going travelling to.

I think div 4 is going to be very competitive. And I also think there isn't much between 4 and most of the teams in 3. Alot will depend on momentum and confidence. Winning the 1st game or 2 will be huge!

He's working full time for QPR. Aside from being a great servant to Wexford football as a player he is actually an expert in what he will be doing with the Senior football squad. Wouldn't matter if he lived in Timbuktu!
