That's the one, cheers. He was a half forward. Did okay from memory but didn't last. To be fair to him our half forwards weren't bad at the time! MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13780 - 07/08/2022 10:59:04 2436512 Link 4 |

So facts are not true anymore?

Except it's not a fact though is it? You absolutely 100% do not have to have been born in Dublin or have played underage for Dublin to play for them. Now that is a fact. You mention Ryan O Dwyer. The rules are the same for both football and hurling. If the Dublin football management choose not to pick outsiders who qualify to play for the county under current GAA rules that is their own decision. galwayman2 (Galway) - Posts: 1291 - 07/08/2022 12:11:17 2436519 Link 1 |
What about Paddy Quinn (Tyrone) and Brian Murphy (Kerry) who both played football with Dublin? If you play club football in Dublin you can play for Dublin. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13780 - 07/08/2022 12:53:52 2436526 Link 5 |

I am surprised how many here do not understand this at all. Every year prior to Colleges opening undreds of lads and lasses transfer to play in Dublin clubs and they are eligble to play for the county.

Is that not until they've represented a Dublin club in the Dublin championship (it can be hurling or football as per the Seanie Johnson saga). . . ?

Yeah as soon as they've played a Championship game (Senior, Inter, Junior) football or hurling any player is eligible to play for the county, football or hurling, in which they've played that match regardless of where they're originally from.

Facts are meaningless, good man. I have first hand knowledge of hundreds of top class footballers transferring to play club in Dublin over a very long period.not one of them played for Dublin.FACT.

Gerry man you're on a mad one here. You're wrong. Shane Walsh will almost certainly not play for Dublin if he transfers to Crokes but he would 100% be eligible. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13780 - 07/08/2022 20:37:42 2436578 Link 6 |
Are all those players who transfered to Dublin clubs been convinced by a bag of cash? Doubt it

You've been provided with the names of 2 outside players who did play football for Dublin, Murphy from Kerry and Quinn from Tyrone, yet you keep ignoring it. How did they play senior football for Dublin given that neither were born there nor played underage for Dublin? WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2223 - 08/08/2022 08:20:26 2436593 Link 1 |
This is indeed a fact as you say. But it's also a fact they could play with Dublin is they want or were picked to play.

But they are ELIGIBLE to play for Dublin.

I'm just off the phone with both of them. They said they were able to play for Dublin because they played football for Dublin clubs and were therefore eligible. There you have it.

"Quinn [Paddy], though, was part of the Dublin panel that spring and relished being involved after some prominent campaigns with Na Fianna in the County Championship. "I moved to Dublin for work reasons in 2008," Quinn explains. "For the first year I travelled up and down to play for my home club Derrylaughan Kevin Barrys up in Tyrone. "Just with the year of travelling up and down it got a bit too much, I was going up and down for training so I transferred down to Na Fianna for the 2009 season. "I played with Na Fianna for maybe four or five years prior to that Dublin call up". https://www.gaa.ie/football/news/paddy-quinn-s-interesting-football-tale/ Cockney_Cat (UK) - Posts: 2668 - 08/08/2022 15:30:54 2436681 Link 0 |
