Perhaps I'm overthink a bit but to me an National Anthem is more than a bit of music or a song played before a match, where and when it is played will be decided on our behalf, just an opinion I have."
Agreed Supersub. The Anthem is more than 'just a piece of music', as described in some quarters."
but nobody respects it enough at GAA grounds to allow it to be played out to the end without shouting and roaring or standing to attention to the end. So its not just another piece of music for 7 of the 9 lines but the last two it is? Either it is or it isn't and it should be respected to the end - if not don't play it."]Bit like going to Chapel on Sunday and leaving at communion time. Why bother going, stay to the end and go less often rather than leaving early. Same with Anthem, bit of respect and wait until it's over before roaring and shouting."]Bit like going to Chapel on Sunday and leaving at communion time. Why bother going, stay to the end and go less often rather than leaving early. Same with Anthem, bit of respect and wait until it's over before roaring and shouting."

The ruling is if you are in attendance between the Offertory and the Priests communion then you have fulfilled your obligation."]How many people (including those who perform it before matches) know the actual words?
Most of them emit phonetic sounds much like the words but.....
And of course the 1st verse is never played, possibly because it wasn't translated into Gaeilge?."]I think the bone of contention here is the breaking loose from the parade or letting off a deafening roar with about 2 ish lines of the Anthem left to play. I still say it's not disrespectfully premeditated.
I consider the first verse to be the real chorus.

Can't get excited over the racing this time of the year. Little interest in flat and jumping only really gets going when the clock goes back. Anything over jumps catch your eye in Galway?

Each to their own I suppose. Give me an evening in Ballinrobe or Sigo ahead of Galway any day.

fair enough. I like Galway but Kilbeggan, Limerick Junction, Gowran anyday over most days of the week of Galway. Crowd at the racing is a good thing though. All too often crowds at smaller meets are just so small its no fun

Rhasidat Adeleke becomes the first Irish sprint finalist at the World Championships for 14 years.

Finishes 2nd to Olympic silver medallist Marileidy Paulino in her semi-final in 49.87

Not even 21 yet. could be huge if she medals/gets close to one

Ádh Mór do Ciara Mageean in 1500m final. Probably our best chance of a medal.

She has an excellent chance of a medal this evening. It looks like there are 4 in the final who will be battling for the medals. Kaczmarek, Paulino, Klaver and Adeleke. Based on form, they appear to be a class apart from the rest. How the medals will fall is anyone's guess.
It's a great opportunity this year, with Miller-Uibo not at her best for obvious reasons. It'll probably be tougher at the Olympics next year if she's back in form.
Paulino might be the favourite, but Kaczmarek has beaten her twice recently and is in serious form. Rhasidat has had a long season in the US college system, but we've seen what she's capable of.
She's very young and has the potential to improve a lot more. She's a hugely exciting athlete and I hope she comes away with something this evening.

Great run. She was a bit slow to get into her stride but I think she'll learn from that for the final. She ran the same time as Klaver who strolled home in Heat 2. Paulino's PB is sub 49 though so a medal for Adeleke at her age would be an outstanding result.
