That's a very simplistic way of viewing the world. For as long as there are records, countries or entities or empires or call them what you like, have been expanding through force to the four corners , and on all continents, - certainly of the known world. Go back as far as you like and this has been the case - way before Christianity was hijacked by the Romans as a vehicle to help hang on to their empire. I don't think that Attila the Hun was "western", as you would describe, and he was only one. Eastern Europe has had their fair share of expansionist despots too, some might say to the present day.

As has Asia. The Japanese empire covered vast parts of southeast Asia and China at different periods, and it wasn't through asking nicely that they conquered these areas. In the Americas, the Aztec and Inca empires expanded by invading new territories and conquering the local populations. It has been the way of the world for thousands of years. It's not unique to western countries, and plenty western countries have also been the victims of it, including ourselves. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2210 - 15/12/2024 09:39:08 2583571 Link 1 |
Amazing the sudden decline of Manchester City. Today's loss to United, relegates them to their Alex Ferguson term of "noisy neighbours" Ryanteam (Cork) - Posts: 408 - 15/12/2024 19:33:30 2583672 Link 1 |
And their "fans" emptied out before the final whistle and those that stayed booed the team….fickle lot Bizzare post match comments by pep…. As a Liverpool fan I don't mind Yanited winning that one. Chelsea look to be the main threat this season. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11426 - 15/12/2024 20:50:47 2583680 Link 2 |
I think they will finish well off the pace in the league but get it right in the Champions League and win the tournament even without a signing or loan signing to replace Rodri

How Utd won that game could never be explained … it was the poorest standard of football I have seen for a long time… City look to have lost all confidence while Utd are light years behind the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal….

Agreed. Poor standard. Utd won it when they realised how fragile City were. City looked bereft of ideas mostly. Haaland just doesn't seem to have it when it comes to winning a ball. Having said that, how did the linesman and indeed referee miss the carry on from Hoijland on Haaland ?? For one corner he looked as if he wanted to smother him with hugs. Type of tackles that Leinster struggled to enact on Saturday night

Letting Palmer out of City would call into question Pep's capacity to evaluate talent.

Palmer asked to leave. Didn't like playing under Pep's system that stifled his flair. Can't argue with Pep's achievements with City but good to see Palmer playing with a bit more freedom at Chelsea. Grealish was a better watch for Villa. Their defence is abysmal this season largely due to Rodri missing. Ederson poor compared to previous seasons. But good defenders shouldn't be so reliant on their defensive midfielder. City were a better watch with David Silva, Mahrez, Aguero and De Bruyne in his pomp. Hard to motivate them under Pep's system and winning the treble probably blunted their appetite a bit. Not convinced that some of them have the stomach for a fight when things aren't going their way.

Scottish football was never in a worse place… are you having a laugh.. ? When only 2 teams have won the league in the last 30/40 years it can hardly be termed as being in a good place…. It's terrible stuff

Hard to argue with any of that….

1985 was the last time a team other than the Old Firm won the league

Mmmmmm....light years is it? Chelsea have just had an 'adverse finding' in a dope test. That would certainly tie in with the 'light years' bit.

Slagging the SPL or the old firm is always such a red flag for me. It is what it is and it's not what you think. Get over yourself. It's a real football spoofer's line. Breffni40 (Cavan) - Posts: 12224 - 17/12/2024 11:23:09 2583833 Link 1 |
"Could never be explained" well you've slammed down the gauntlet here and I'm willing to step up. United scored 2 goals while City scored 1. I've consulted the rule book to discover this means United win, resulting in 3 points for Utd and 0 for City!. In future if you're confused by stuff like this, I find the scoreboard is an excellent reference point to start with.

Utd stole the game at the end….and City were a pale shadow of their usual selves… anyone with an ounce of a brain or knowledge of football would say the same … unfortunately you seem to lack on both fronts…!
