Replying To Galway9801:  "Yeah it doesn't seem to be generating the same hype, but it's still pretty early,, is it set in stone how long the new calendar is going to be used?"
It's generating no hype because less face it the provincial championship (apart from Ulster) in football is dead.

Replying To wicklowsupport:  "There is alot of talk about how the men championship should mirror what the women do but not to play the tailteann cup on the same day as the all ireland even though that's what the ladies get as a reward. Also tng get taxpayers money from the tv licence so rte could use tng to show the tailteann cup games just as they do with underage competitions."
But sure the Christy Ring Cup etc at the start were supposed to be curtain raisers for all ireland hurling semi's . The three of them were on in an empty Croke Park yesterday being streamed on TG4's YouTube channel. The kildare/mayo match even clashed with Kilkenny/wexford match.

Nothing stopping rte using this tg4 feed to broadcast on their news channel, in fairness who watches it normally anyway.

Money is what's stopping them. I'm not a fan of most of RTE TV but why would they give up potential revenue to show games with a limited viewing audience that's simultaneously being streamed on YouTube?

The news channel has no advertising as far as i'm aware or they could still have it in a split screen format if they wished. The revenue off that news channel now as it is is pretty weak
