Who from Cavan is saying that? It's the bookies that have Cavan favourites, we hate being that, and while we might be cautiously optimistic we can win, no one is saying it's our divine right. Especially after the results last weekend

Cavan are favorites and righty so to be fair. They have played in Division 1 most recently and Won the Covid Ulster Championship in 2020.

I wasn't arguing with you, crafty from Galway said Cavan were a "class above" Westmeath which I disagree with. Cavan topped Div 4 and Westmeath finished 3rd in Div3. I expect it to be an evenly matched game. If you want an argument, your team who you say only lost to Donegal, Dublin, and Tyrone in championship in the last 5 years and you base their performances on championship, only beat Sligo by 3 points. Sligo who were beaten by 12 by Roscommon this year, beaten by 20 points by Mayo last year, gave a walkover due to covid in 2020 and hammered by Galway in 2019. If you want to look at it your way, we've only been beaten by Dublin and Kildare in last 3 seasons of championship in Leinster. Last 2 years we have only beaten Antrim . Loughduff lad you need to get over yourself. Our current rankings is correct . We are not a top 14/15 team. I'd like to hear all your excuses if Westmeath beat us in the final. Because with a defence like ours (and theirs) it will become a shoot out . Whoever missed the most will win. Neither teams defence would stand a snowballs chance against Galway, Dublin, Kerry , Armagh, Derry, ect in Croke park in knockout football. Certainly not on last week's defensive performance and also league final v Tipperary a hell of a lot of work to do to get anywhere close to the teams your talking about.

I am over myself. Am I not allowed to have a debate on a forum? Think you need to wise up a bit yourself. You can choose to ignore if you want. It's a place for discussion, and I'm just discussing different options. Any harm in that?

Why speak about the last 5 years? Is that a figure you dreamed up? Why not the last 2 years? Or just last year? Or just this year? Seems you need to include 2020 and our Ulster final win in your stats. Why? You fail to include our slide down the league tables year after year. We are in Div 4 for a reason. We defend like a Div 4 team. IF we beat Westmeath then that's shows improvement and maybe shows we could compete or get promotion from Div 3. But until then we are Div 4. We have no business being anywhere near the qualifiers until we improve because our defence ( which has shown no improvement through the league) would be destroyed by the Teams left in the qualifiers. There's nothing between Westmeath and Cavan on what I've seen this year. Breffni1969 (Cavan) - Posts: 510 - 24/06/2022 13:13:13 2427261 Link 1 |
Think this competition has been good for Cavan and Westmeath some valuable competitive championship football for them. I'd rathered see ourselves play in it even through our league position suggested we weren't suited to it to give younger players a run out and time as a team. Wouldn't have expected likes of mcmanus and the Hughes etc to play but a lot of u20s from last year could have benefited from it. Instead we are back in div 1 in six months time flogging same players to death again to stay up when we need a transition period. We mightn properly rebuild for about two years at this rate. Cavan or Westmeath winning this will do them good long term. seanie08 (Monaghan) - Posts: 1885 - 25/06/2022 09:25:17 2427348 Link 1 |
Cavan have only beaten Antrim in the Championship in the past 2 years. We struggled against London, Leitrim and Sligo in the league and got beaten by Tipp in the league proper and scraped by them in the Div 4 final. the previous year in the league we couldn't save ourselves from relegation and got well beaten by Wicklow in a playoff. In the Tailteann we have beaten: Down, Fermanagh and Sligo. s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5520 - 25/06/2022 09:40:59 2427349 Link 0 |
I look forward to seeing his answers to this. But it's more likely he won't actually give one.

The Tailteann has given Cavan and Westmeath a platform to showcase their talent. Antrim and Kerry got a lot of compliments after a great McDonagh final. The Tailteann winner is going to go into the Sam Maguire 16 with a higher profile. A lot of neutrals will be interested in the progress they go on to make. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8788 - 25/06/2022 14:06:43 2427390 Link 1 |

Looks like Croke Park is nearly full for Saturday. Should be a massive crowd from all 4 counties involved. Hopefully some Galway/Derry fans get in to watch our game to create a better atmosphere. Temple56 (Westmeath) - Posts: 547 - 06/07/2022 14:31:12 2430100 Link 0 |

He lives in a bubble! Disregards league form. It would be no surprise to me if Westmeath won on Saturday as they playing a higher level than us. But he don't see that . In saying that they are leaking scores same as us so Saturdays game should be high scoring( both defences are very average) Breffni1969 (Cavan) - Posts: 510 - 07/07/2022 14:40:32 2430314 Link 1 |
