And what about the first black card? And why did you think it should be a red? I haven't seen any video angle showing a pull down. A cynical body foul to prevent the Waterford player from scoring. If you take someone down you take them down. Whether literally pulling their arm or rugby tackling them. It's still a pull down. I think if you are the last man and prevent a certain goal with a foul then it should be a straight red. And penalty. That's not the rule as it stands but it should be. The Jake Morris incident wasnt the same. There were possibly 3 defenders who might have intercepted him plus a keeper who might have saved his shot if he got one off at all. The black card is a lot of nonsense.

The referee can only give frees or sanctions as per rule, otherwise anarchy and chaos prevail. Ref got both decisions wrong. Neither came under black card criteria. According to dubshurling7 who started the thread the rule states within the 20 or D. You have said repeatedly it's the 13. Agree the rules need to be followed. Just think there is no need for a black card. More offenses should be detailed that would fall under the red card category is all. Over the last 40 years goalies are being given more and more protection and it's probably gone too far the other way these days. Eoin Murphy for example, great keeper that he is, has made an art form of taking the forward and ball out of the game at the same time. Everyone is bemoaning the lack of goals in the modern game. And the modern keepers training, coupled with the vagueness of the rules and over protection of the keeper, has alot to do with that.

I think what he is saying is it isn't a black card offence and if it isn't a black card offence it can only be a penalty if the foul occurs within the 13 metre line

Being honest about it the cynicism by players around many of the rules is very evident. Backs measuring where to commit the fouls to avoid penalties. Goalies taking out the forward by trying to beat the forward to outside the penalty area. Horrible head challenges but also using attempted ones to get frees. You would wonder is a lot of it being coached. When it comes to rules the GAA would screw up the Lords prayer. I agree with Viking66. For these goal prevention fouls call the penalty. An automatic yellow card and if the foul is dangerous, injuries or anything else that constitutes a red card anywhere on the field, give it. The yellow is not an insignificant punishment as if he farts again he is off. Most seem to agree the Dublin goaltender should have gone. Eoin Murphy runs out, makes himself big, goes to ground horizontally and often then contacts the forward just as he is striking the ball. Brave- yes. Good at keeping out the ball- yes also. Going to ground and contacting the forward- also yes. At full speed the forward often falls over and is out of the game for a few seconds. If a forward isnt allowed to knock over the keeper in the act of putting the ball into the net then the reverse should also apply.
