Replying To TalkToFahy:  "Tyrone senior, intermediate and junior championships are all run off at the same time. Sometimes there's junior/senior or intermediate/ senior double headers etc. Championship started on the 6th September this year and was over on the 25th October. Promotion/ relegation is based on league standings but whatever club wins the intermediate or junior championship gets automatic promotion plus the league winners. Bottom 4 teams of senior and intermediate go into a play off I think to spare the drop"
September is a long time to wait. Tyrone start their league very late, may. Could ye not start it earlier? Errigal ciaran were playing a league semi final in December? How was league still going on if its a short knockout championship

Replying To MrPBoylan:  "Unbelievable from a counties u20 manager to request this from players. Surely the point of u20's is to develop young players? Instead this manager thinks his personal success is more important than giving a good standard of football to young talented players!"
Ah cop yourself on. Not a word about it. How many Under 20 lads would be playing Sigerson.?If you interested,I have a bridge for sale.

Its not only Sigerson. There is freshers football too which is a great way to meet new people and make lifelong friends from different counties.

I'm okay for bridges, I wouldn't want to deprive a troll like yourself of a home...

Any developments on a replacement for this role? It is an important role and you would hope it is filled soon.

I'm open to correction on this but is Paddy Martin not the coaching officer on the county board a voluntary position elected at convention? A position he should have been in years ago but for politics getting in the way. That is a different role to the full time position of Games and development job/role Paul O'Connor was in. No sign of it being advertised anywhere.

I see the Irish news is reporting the senior ladies have got rid of their manager for a second year in a row. Oh dear

Absolutely right, two different jobs.

From the peak days of the 90s and 2008-2013, monaghan lgfa is in sorry state. Sad for a proud county

Problem is this current squad believe they're at the level of 1997 but play like 2022

Best wishes to Conor McManus on his retirement from inter county football…. A true legend of the game and would always make it into my forward line on the greatest football XV…

The very best of luck to Conor McManus in the next chapter of his life. Conor is the definition of a man who gave it his all for his county and deserves the rest. He is without doubt of the very best forwards we have seen and would walk into county team over the last 2 decades. Privileged to watch him and away from football he's a class act and an absolute gentleman. All the best Conor

What a player.

One of the greats of this era.

Respected in every County,

The game is a poorer place without him

Congratulations on a great career.

Enjoy your retirement Conor.

Mc Manus was a brilliant footballer and what he has done for monaghan is nothing short of remarkable. A warrior and a class player who was the ultimate clutch player. Three moments stand out for me. In 2014, he somehow recovered to play against tyrone in the ulster championship after picking up a serious injury a few weeks before. Kicked some big scores that day. His 2018 show against kerry in clones was him at his peak, ran the kerry defence ragged. Such a shame that year that we didn't make the final, he deserved to play on the biggest day. His cameo against armagh in 23 also showed his worth, wins the free in extra time, scores it and buries his two penalties. Talk about leadership for your county. Best of luck in your retirement conor.

Well said. Mcmanus was a generational great who we were blessed to have playing for monaghan. It's funny looking back its almost like there were two versions of him with monaghan. The first part 07-12 when he partly played half back for a lot of it kinda waif like figure with great pace fast hands and the booming right foot was always there. Then from 13 on he developed into a phenomenal footballer who could kick points from impossible angles and handle pressure kicks with aplomb. Saw him knock over 12 pts in a league game at croke Park in 15 or 16 and Dublin supporters nearly cheering the scores they were that good. A man for the big occasion who demanded the responsibility in pressure moments cavan 13 cavan 15 donegal 13 15 16 Tyrone 18 armagh 21 (huge leadership when team blew a big lead) 23 the list is endless he fronted up whenever the chips were down. As good a footballer as we are ever likely to see play for monaghan. There are no doubt talented young lads coming on but we will miss the ice cold ruthlessness of mcmanus in the clutch moments. V few players like that around who relish the pressure and responsibility. I'd love to see him go into coaching as huge stature in the county to inspire players on.

Anyone want to take a punt on what the starting 15 will be on Saturday against Cavan?

IMO , it's very hard to predict, given it's a new manager and the raft of players given match time during recent challenge games. I do think Bannigan will start Sean Jones and Andrew Woods. McAnespie is fit and flying. Think it will be between McCarron, Mooney and Garland for the other corner forward slot. One corner back slot will be up for grabs as a couple of half back positions. Midfield, I reckon Bannigan will opt for his club colleague Wilson to partner Mohan, though I would prefer McBennett. Possibly 1 or two league debutants starting with another couple coming in from the bench.

How about this starting 15? (but no doubt I'll be wildly wrong)

Rory Beggan
Ryan Wylie
Killian Lavelle
Ronan Boyle
Ciaran McNulty
Kieran Duffy
Conor McCarthy
Gary Mohan
Joel Wilson
Ryan McAnespie
Michael Bannigan
Stephen O'Hanlon
Stephen Mooney
Andrew Woods
Sean Jones
