He never got his best 15 on the pitch at any time during the year. Injuries to Dessie Ward, Stephen O'Hanlon, Darren Hughes, Ryan McAnespie, Karl O'Connell, Micheal Bannigan at different stages of league and championship. Karl Gallagher, Kieran Hughes, Conor Boyle departing the panel. So that's 9 players that played a part in Semi final against Dublin last year. Uncertainty around Beggan wasn't good for squad either throughout the league. I believe we would have beaten Tyrone if he had played. Even with all that, we were still only a kick of the ball away from beating Galway in Salthill at business end of the championship when we had some of our injured players back, even though not fully fit, and we had 8 players play a part in that game who did not play any part in the semi final last year. you have to take some positives from that. They were: Jason Irwin Michael Hamill Barry McBennett Ciaran McNulty Thomas McPhilips Joel Wilson Micheal McCarville Andrew Woods I'm feeling quite confident for Monaghan in 2025. Hopefully new players will push on and we can finish in the top half of Division 2, while continuing to build and lads will get a bit more confidence playing in Div 2 too. Apart from adding Stephen Mooney and hopefully Aaron Mulligan to the panel in 2025, what other good young prospects are there ? I believe Kearns won't be back from Oz until 2026 ? Compare Armagh panel on All Ireland final day to Armagh v Monaghan in Quarter final 2023, only difference in panel are: Blaine Hughes (Due to Rafferty injury) Conor O'Neill - Sub Shea Magill - Sub Justin Kieran - Sub So Monaghan were certainly rebuilding this year (some would say were forced to rebuild), Armagh just pushed on with pretty much same team as Monaghan played in 2023 and got the holy grail.!!" I was alway critical of him in a monaghan jersey but this year gone showed me that he did go through work and he would of been a welcome bonus to the team/squad. Oh sorry, I must have been following a different group of players all year or is it just that you all have let one decent performance against Galway blind you to the dire performances that Monaghan produced this year. We were a complete and utter shambles, not one player looked like they wanted to be on the pitch or in the jersey. You can have the strongest panel in the country but if a team doesn't have belief in the management, you can forget about it, look at Derry. Time to remove those rose tinted glasses. He also needs to shake up his backroom team big time. If rumors are to be believed, it wasn't a good dressing room this year and that was definetly translated onto the pitch as the year went on. Monaghan did restore some pride against Galway though and could have won it, only for a a couple of good goal chances missed. Anyway, the target for 2025 has to be a return to Div 1 and at least a quarter final. Who will retire..? Nothing official about McManus yet but assume he will, if not, he's still a good man to spring from the bench if needed. I'd love to see Darren Hughes stay on for another year if fit, he was the best player we had against Cavan until his injury. There are strong rumours that Sean Jones will be missing this championship campaign through injury, which means that possibly the most boring senior club championship in the country, just got even more boring! If there's no Jones for Inniskeen, then Scotstown will go through this championship in first gear. If Jones is fit, then at least Scotstown might have to go up to second gear to win it. Relegation: Killanny and Cremartin Intermediate- I'd lean slightly towards Truagh. Realistically they should be targeting an Ulster club. Carrick and Magheracloone are the two main competitors but when all three have their strongest teams, I think Truagh just edge it. Relegation: Tyholland and Blackhill Junior - Would have said Toome were nailed on at the start of the year but without James Wilson they are definitely beatable. Really hate the group format, I know split season and covid has brought it in, but the old format had far more jeopardy in my opinion. Very good season so far for ballybay. Could they potentially derail scotstown. If sean Jones isn't back for Inniskeen, they'll struggle. And perhaps latton got a fierce reality check a few weeks back to kick on. Looks like intermediate is just awaiting a maghercloone truagh final and in junior toome and aghabog seem to be out in front. By in large the club scene is pretty poor with alot of players in their 30s being key for their clubs which isn't good for the county team.
