New Jerseys

Just wanted to say that any of the new efforts at inter county jerseys coming from O'Neills in recent weeks have been awful. Time for a couple more competitors I recon?

I agree totally and who does the crazy videos for O'Neills ? I nearly had a couple of seizures watching them.

I can't see much of a difference in the kildare Jersey, and aren't teams allowed to put sponsors on their sleeves as well now.

The new Kildare one is pathetic, faint diagonal pinstripes in the back ground whatever that is all about.
Definitly time to let competition in, there's some lovely GAA jersies out there being made by competitors.

I don't think it's all down to O'Neills because they've had some lovely county jerseys through the years. I think the counties involved have a big say in the design though not sure. But definitely let other companies have a go at it. Do county boards need to be tied to one maker? In fairness a five year old could design a county jersey and she did!

You recon. O' Neills make nothing to do with the design of county jerseys. They make them and are made to the highest standard.

Awful in what way, design? quality? Or both?

Only seen a couple being the Donegal and Roscommon jerseys both poor efforts. One of my fellow Donegal posters described the new jersey as like a rugby league jersey. The Donegal jersey is a hard one to get wrong but O'Neills nailed it in that regard. Shame too as having the name of each club worked into the design was a nice touch just the rest is poor.

We had a good thing going with Addidas years ago but the bigwigs at the gaa headquarters put an end to it, I wouldn't mind but they were class jerseys.

I just bought a Kerry jersey for my Cocker spaniel €30. It better fit him now.

Fair enough, my club uses O'Neill's gear and I'd not deter, have a host of jerseys myself and as you say, all to the highest standard.. probably just a petty post about the design of the 2021/22 kits I've seen so far- they've been poor and ultimately, while the colours remain the same, the designs are done by oneills. I just think a few real competitors would keep them on their toes, if the same brand are making every jersey for every club and every county every second year, they're bound to run out of nice ideas!

Design, apologies for how the OP might have come across, ONeills have always been the standard bearers for quality kits in the GAA- just the new designs really letting them down

Counties select from a range of O'Neills designs. The quality of O'Neills is second to none, but the designs in recent times have been lazy and rather rubbish in some instances. Also for the love of God why can't they print the crest on the jerseys rather than it being stitched on the jerseys and all the gear.

100% time another serious contender entered the fray.

I wonder what people would think if they knew where some jersey manufacturing is outsourced to.

Pity more counties don't use other manufacturers, I think Masita and McKvr make lovely jersey in my opinion, I was never the biggest fan of Azzuri. My problem with O'Neills as well is they keep using the 3 stripes, no harm to try different designs now and again

In fairness it's fairly hard to come up with a different variation of Kildare Jersey when they have only one colour and are expected to change it every 2 years.
Even outside of Kildare for teams that have 2 colours in the jersey having to change them every 2 years is tough to come up with new designs, move too far away from the traditional jersey and people will complain, have them too similar and less will bother buy them.

Why do we have to ape soccer nonsense of new jerseys every 2 years?

There are plenty of Irish sports clothing brands out there now and it would be great to see them involved in a competitive market where they get the exposure of inter county teams that O'Neills have dominance. A lot of these are involved with clubs across the country and produce some very nice gear at competitive prices. They have good user friendly websites. I know some companies produce stuff and the quality would not be great but the likes of Bodibro, Azzurri, KCS, DS Sports, McKvr and Masita have good quality gear. I know this could be controversial but the GAA could put it out to tender for equipment like balls and sliotars and even referees kits and see what these competitors come back with.
